Hiking over Lemons
8 days, Self-Guided for 2 people or more, Seasonal Daily Departures
- Unspoiled Moorish villages
- Charming accommodations and hosts
- Near to Granada and the Alhambra
Our Andalucian delight offers you the opportunity to explore one of the most stunning and undiscovered areas of Spain, where life continues as it has done for hundreds of years since the Moors first farmed here. Explore on foot, the almond orchards, olive groves and terraces, and the traditional local whitewashed villages high up in this part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Starting in the charming village of Mairena there is a refreshingly welcoming atmosphere and your hosts here have a wealth of knowledge of the local history, culture and walking routes. They have traditionally restored their villa with loving care and have a small organic olive and fruit farm. Here you can enjoy some home-cooked dinners on the terrace by the dip pool under the late evening sun or stars, or during the winter months by the open fire.
After a couple of nights in Mairena you transfer for your four-day walk that takes you from one delightful mountain village to the next. You will be walking on a gradually descending route, along waterways and ancient trails, which are still used today by farmers walking to and from their fields. You have outstanding views up to the summits of the Sierra Nevada and dramatic drops down to the rivers below. This is the perfect trip for anyone who appreciates mountains, good food and spectacular but gentle walking.
