This trek allows you to see parts of the Ionian coast, also known as the Albanian Riviera, which are typically overlooked by tourists. This part of the country is known for clear turquoise water, picture-perfect beaches, warm hospitality and breathtaking landscapes. You trek along scenic coastal trails discovering quaint villages and farming communities, with opportunities to stop for a swim or to relax on quiet beaches. The trip also includes time hiking in the mountains of Llogara National Park.

During the trip, you stay in a range of accommodation, typically of which are family-run guesthouses or hotels. For your time in the Albanian Riviera you're based in Himare.  

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Albania

    Upon arriving at Tirana airport you're transferred to your accommodation within Llogara National Park.

  2. Day 2: Ceraunian range hike

    Beginning in the Llogara Pass, today’s hike takes you through pine forest and shepherd's trails until climbing to a height of 1,600m at the Dhjopuri Saddle. Throughout the hike there are breathtaking views across the Ceraunian mountain range, Albanian Riviera and Ionian Sea.    

    After your hike, a transfer takes you to the town of Himare, on the Albanian Riviera.  

    Walking distance: 5 km | Ascent: 550 m | Descent: 550 m

  3. Day 3: Kudhes to Borsh

    A scenic drive takes you to Kudhes, where today's walk begins. A track takes you past olive groves to occasional flocks of goats before opening up to give views across the coast to the island of Corfu. The trail then passes through the rustic village of Qeparo before continuing to Borsh.

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 425 m | Descent: 425 m

  4. Day 4: Vuno to Himare

    Starting in the picturesque town of Vuno, which is known for white-washed houses, you descend from the inland village until arriving at Jala. On arrival at Jala, you pick up a coastal route that leads past secluded beaches which are only accessible on foot, before reaching Livadh, and finally Himare. There are several swimming spots along this route.  

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 250 m | Descent: 505 m

  5. Day 5: Lukova to Piqeras

    Today’s hike starts with a fairly steep, but short ascent to a viewpoint near Lukova, on a clear day you're rewarded with views stretching across the countryside and over the Ionian Sea to Corfu. There's an option of extending the trek to Lavani Peak, which is reached via an undefined path. After the viewpoint, the path begins to drop after passing through olive groves, before the final descent into Piqeras.

    Walking distance: 6 km | Ascent: 450 m | Descent: 500 m

  6. Day 6: Lukova to Borsh beach

    Today is the final walk in the Albanian Riviera. From Lukova, the trail takes you on cobblestone paths to a waterfall. Running alongside the terraced olive groves is a trail which was built by hand without the use of machinery. After this, the path takes you back to the coastline and Bunec Beach, before finishing at Borsch Beach. Depending on the time, you can relax here and have a swim before transferring back to Llogara. 

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 150 m | Descent: 400 m

  7. Day 7: Llogara Park trails

    Today’s hike offers extensive views as you hike near the peaks of Cika and Qorre on a gravel path. On a clear day you might see the Albanian Riviera and Orikum Bay. A partial trail-free path takes you to Mount Gjipali, at a height of 1,446 metres, a perfect spot for a picnic or to relax. After today’s hike a transfer takes you to Tirana. 

    Walking distance: 11 km | Ascent: 425 m | Descent: 625 m

  8. Day 8: Depart Albania

    After breakfast, you're transferred to Tirana airport in time for your return flight.
