During this 7-day trip you will discover the cliffs and coves of the Cinque Terre and Portofino. Walk along cobbled paths and easy roads, with spectacular views of the sea and the colourful houses which line the coast.
A little corner of paradise, the Cinque Terre - meaning five little villages - is located in the Liguria region at the end of the Riviera di Levante. Generations of farmers shaped the mountains by building stone walls to retain the land and create cultivation terraces. This area is steeped in tradition and has a strong local economy. Nestled above cliffs or deep coves, the colourful houses of these little villages line the seafront and help create this areas unique landscape.
You’ll be walking along cobbled paths and through lush olive groves, but make sure you take some time to sample the delicious fresh produce in one of the many tavernas along the way. You will also discover the classy ports of Portofino and Sestri Levante, known to be frequented by millionaires and their yachts that drop anchor just off the coast.
Your accommodation for the week offers the friendly atmosphere you’d expect from Italian hosts and helps you unwind after a long day of walking.
Arrive into Sestri Levante; your trip starts at your accommodation where you will receive a welcome dinner.
Today’s walk is in the heart of the Cinque Terre National Park. Take some time to explore Vernazza town, an historic fishing village and the Cinque Terre’s only natural port. The day finishes with a train journey back to Sestri Levante for your overnight stay (train payable locally).
This morning you will travel to La Spezia by train and on to Palmaria Island by boat. Walk a circular route on this island which is rich in Mediterranean vegetation. Choose to return to La Spezia by bus or boat before your final train back to Sestri Levante (train, bus and boat payable locally).
This morning's train will take you back to Corniglia where you will start your walk. Near to the end of your walk, climb and descend a pathway of stairs (approximately one hour) to the neighbouring village of Riomaggiore or, if you’d prefer, you can choose to take the train. After a quick swim to cool off, take the train back to Sestri Levante for your overnight stay (train payable locally).
Your train journey will take you back to Riomaggiore where you start your walk to Portovenere. This picturesque path offers panoramic views out to sea. When you reach Portovenere you can take the bus to La Spezia or the boat to Monterosso for your onward train journey back to Sestri Levante (train, bus and boat payable locally).
Today you will take the train to Rapallo for the local bus to Ruta di Camogli, from where your walk will start. Heading out across the Portofino National Park, pass through Paradiso and Pietre Strette. Your walk will take you to San Fruttuoso where you’ll visit the famous abbey and explore the village before continuing to Santa Margherita Ligure where you will pick up your train back to Sestri Levante for your final night (train and bus payable locally).
