The section of the Via Francigena route from Siena to Montefiascone offers a fabulous blend of history and nature. Setting out from Siena, you stay in several renowned and less-discovered medieval villages along the route, including Buonconvento and Acquapendente. Aside from the history and architecture, the section allows you to discover varied Tuscan landscapes, including its rolling hills, vineyards and Bolsena Lake. The journey concludes in the Montefiascone, located in the Volsini Mountains.
The route from Siena to Montefiascone covers approximately 155 kilometres of the pilgrimage route. The section is known for its varied landscapes, medieval heritage, and typical Tuscan architecture.
Included in the holiday is the pilgrims' passport, which is a memento of your journey. This passport can be stamped at various locations such as tourist offices, accommodations, select restaurants, and other notable spots along the route.

Day 1: Arrival day
Upon arrival make your own way to your accommodation in Siena.

Day 2: Trek from Siena to Monteroni d'Arbia
Embark on your first hike traversing rolling landscapes with glimpses of Siena’s skyline. Continue to Grancia di Cuna an ancient fortified farm and along the foothills of the Crete Senesi. Enter Lucignano d'Arbia through its cypress tree-lined entrance before reaching your hotel.

Day 3: Trek from Monteroni d'Arbia to Buonconvento
Today's hike takes you across picturesque hills and charming wheat meadows until you reach the enchanting walled town of Buonconvento, renowned as one of Italy's most stunning villages. Buonconvento is surrounded by a city wall that dates back to 1379.

Day 4: Trek from Buonconvento to San Quirico
Follow dirt and paved roads with views of the region's rolling hills adorned with vineyards and elegant cypress trees, until you reach San Quirico d'Orcia. This historic village is known for the magnificent gate of the Collegiata, a Romanesque-style church and the Palazzo Chigi.

Day 5: Trek from San Quirico d’Orcia to Castiglione
Continue your journey through the Val D'Orcia, it's possible to visit the thermal waters of Bagno Vignoni along your route. The trek continues through panoramic landscapes until reaching the charming town of Castiglione d'Orcia which is where the artist Lorenzo di Pietro is believed to be from.

Day 6: Trek from Castiglione d’Orcia to Radicofani
Pass through more of the rolling Tuscan landscape as you journey towards Radicofani. Along the way, you have the opportunity to explore the Pieve di San Pietro, a historic site that traces back to the 13th century. The final section of today's hike takes you to the village of Radicofani which is perched on a hill.

Day 7: Trek from Radicofani to Acquapendente
Beginning in Radicofani, embark on the longest hike of your holiday. After passing the Rocca Castle, follow the ancient road with awe-inspiring views across the varied countryside. Upon reaching Centeno, a short transfer takes you to Ponte Gregoriano and, from here, continue through picturesque landscapes until reaching Acquapendente.

Day 8: Trek from Acquapendente to Bolsena
Today's hike takes you along country paths until you catch a breathtaking glimpse of Lake Bolsena. From here, you descend into a mesmerising volcanic crater, passing through enchanting woods, picturesque meadows, and olive groves, until you arrive at the charming lakeside town of Bolsena.

Day 9: Trek from Bolsena to Montefiascone
On leaving Bolsena, you hike along the crest of the hills that surround the eastern part of the lake before arriving in Montefiascone, a village situated in a prominent position with panoramic views of the lake and the Cimini Mountains. During your stay in Montefiascone, The Fortress of the Pope is worth a visit.

Day 10: Departure day
Once you finish breakfast, your adventure on Via Francigena comes to an end. If you have some time, take the opportunity to explore Montefiascone before heading to the airport or continuing to your next destination.
