8 Guided-Group Trips to Suit Your Stride

Whether you choose a walking destination based on your desire to see the country, find out more about the culture, explore history or another reason, it is comforting to know that each day will not present too much of a physical challenge to detract from the enjoyment of the walk or trek.

Our local guides will, of course, always accommodate all members of a group, waiting for everyone to regroup at certain points, but trying to match the correct holiday to suit your walking ability is key and something which we are always happy to discuss  with you.

We have put together some of our most popular guided-group walks in each grade, offering a European and long haul option for each.

Easy Striders

Hiking Croatia

Take in the beauty of different parts of the Croatian countryside as you traverse down the length of the country and walk in four national parks. Start in the Medvednica Mountains, then on to the emerald lakes of Plitvice National Park, the karst landscapes and gorges in Paklenica and the stunning waterfalls in Krka. Enjoy far-reaching views of the Dalmatian coast and Split on your final day.

Thailand & Vietnam on Foot

This slow-paced itinerary offers a perfect mix of gentle walks and cultural excursions. Tour Bangkok; explore forests and caves before a cooking class at a local homestay. Take a 4WD safari after a walk in Khao Yai National Park. Transfer to Vietnam for a day’s village to village trek, a visit to Van Long Nature Reserve and a tour of Hanoi.

Moderate Meanders

Finland: Forests of the Midnight Sun

At a location just beneath the Arctic Circle this ‘back to nature’ trip is all about a true taste of wilderness. Your guide will lead you on modest walks through tall dense forests, across low ridges and past glistening lakes to stay in cosy log cabins and simple guesthouses and enjoy saunas and campfire cooking.  Eighteen kilometres is the longest distance covered but at a relaxed pace to look out for signs of wildlife including wolf, lynx, bear, wolverine, pine marten, elk and reindeer.

Trails of Northern Japan

Our latest itinerary to Japan focuses on Northern Honshu and the island of Hokkaido. Although altitudes reach just over 2,000 metres, there is plenty of time to cover the distances of up to seven or eight kilometres per day. Enjoy the scenery from craters to forests, gorges to alpine-covered cliff paths along with the hospitality of traditional ryokans and the efficiency of the Shinkansen (bullet train).

Delightfully Demanding

Land of Dracula: Walking in Transylvania

The Carpathian Mountains are one of the most spectacular natural features of Romania – a vast wilderness landscape of high ridges, forest and alpine meadows. A good level of fitness is required to traverse the many different types of terrain, including ascents and descents, of between five and seven hours each day. The rewards are plentiful and include incredible views, the medieval city of Brasov and generous Romanian hospitality.

Natural Wonders of Uzbekistan

This trip offers so many new experiences for the already experienced hillwalker. You will tackle a mixture of terrains from stony desert trails to rocky ledges and use ropes to help the descent of Little Chimgan through Gulkamsay Gorge. Your mountain guide team will always be on hand to help and with insider information about this fascinating country. Walking around the impressive ancient cities of Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent and staying at a yurt camp are added highlights.

Feel the Burn – Strenuous

Rila & Pirin Mountain Trek

If you are seeking a real mountain adventure then look no further than this itinerary to Bulgaria’s highest peaks and in fact the highest peak in the Balkans Musala (2,925 metres). The treks of five to eight hours each day will include exhilarating ascents and descents across mountain trails, around glacial lakes and through alpine meadows rich with flora and fauna. Opt for a guided tour of Sofia before departure.

Georgia: Trekking in the Caucasus

Trek in the midst of the mighty Caucasus, carrying your sleeping bag and camping out overnight for two nights in the mountains (with homestay, guesthouse and hotel accommodation too). Treks can last up to seven to ten hours each day on rocky mountain trails, through forests and across some wild terrain. Trek across the Atsunta Pass (3,430 metres) with fantastic views and passing hamlets to witness an unchanged way of mountain life.
