Peru’s Hidden Gems – Which holiday is right for you?

We recently announced the launch of three unique trekking holidays in Peru, each offering a journey through the country's breathtaking landscapes and rich culture. Are you trying to decide which of these holidays is right for you? Discover what makes each of these new adventures distinct below.

Salkantay, Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu

Immerse yourself in the mystical allure of the Andes with the Salkantay, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu holiday. This route combines the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the Salkantay trek with the cultural richness of communities in the Sacred Valley and the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

Beginning in the Sacred Valley, your arrival day and the following two are focused on cultural immersion. Activities include helping to prepare a traditional Peruvian lunch, visiting a living museum, and witnessing traditional weaving processes. After this, you begin your multi-day Salkantay trek towards Machu Picchu, passing through cloud forests, mountain passes and valleys along the Salkantay Trail. A guided tour of Machu Picchu is included at the end, followed by time in Cusco.

Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain & Cusco

For explorers drawn to high-altitude challenges and surreal landscapes, our Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain & Cusco holiday offers an unforgettable experience.

The holiday begins in Cusco with free time and a city tour. From here you travel to Cojhur and commence a multi-day hike through the heart of the Andes. Highlights include hiking to the vibrant Vinicunca Mountain, also known as Rainbow Mountain, traversing majestic mountains and the high-altitude passes of Ausangate. An optional Machu Picchu express extension is available, which allows you to hike the final section of the Inca Trail.

Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu

Step back in time with the Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu, a journey that combines two of Peru's most significant archaeological wonders. This holiday is a perfect blend of history, culture, and nature, exploring less-travelled paths.

After a few days of acclimatising and exploring Cusco, the trail commences near the Apurimac Canyon. From here you hike to the ruins of Choquequirao and continue through the remarkable scenery until reaching Machu Picchu. After your hike, there are two days focused on experiencing the Peruvian culture. You visit the Sacred Valley town of Ollantaytambo, the salt mines of Moray and partake in a community day learning about the local farming techniques.

All these holidays can be extended to include additional nights in Cusco, where optional activities, such as kayaking or paddleboarding on Piuray Lake, a cooking class, a chocolate workshop, or a day hike to Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain, can be added.
