Hike the Corfu Trail from Spartera to Spartillas on a 2-week walking holiday, following cobbled paths through willow, cedar and juniper forests alongside rivers and coastlines.

  • Visit charming mountain villages
  • Walk on ancient mule tracks
  • Scenic olive groves & panoramic views

Deservedly a firm favourite, this is a must do for walkers. Explore this picturesque island's mountainous north and the beautiful rolling landscapes in the south.

This two week self-guided itinerary in Corfu takes you through the finest areas of the island, hiking the full Corfu Trail. Walk on cobbled paths and inland tracks through cool forests of cedar, juniper and willow, passing rivers and lush pastures en route. You’ll summit Corfu’s second highest peak, Agii Deka (576 metres), on day 5.

Away from the coastal tourist hubs, you’ll pass over 100 villages, ancient manor houses, byzantine monasteries and welcoming quayside tavernas. There are also ample opportunities to enjoy a dip in the warm, turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. And, of course there’s the added bonus of the pleasing Corfu climate too!

The Corfu Trail is also available as a 10-day trip, and a 1-week itinerary for those who want a shorter walking holiday.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Corfu

Arrive Corfu. Optional walk if time permits.

  2. Day 2: Asprokavos to Santa Barbara

Set out on the trail around a beautiful lake, where you might see birds and terrapins, before descending through olive groves and fields for lunch at the old town of Lefkimmi. Head across the Gardeno River valley, climbing to the west side of Corfu and then take a steep descent on a narrow footpath to the seemingly endless sandy beach of Santa Barbara.

  3. Day 3: Santa Barbara to Paramonas

Today's route leads you along beaches and sand dunes covered with cedar and juniper trees. A footbridge takes you towards Lake Korission, home to a variety of birds, before you continue on tracks and an undulating section of road to the beach of Paramonas.

  4. Day 4: Paramonas to Stavros/Benitses

You start today with a sharp climb over the ridge and inland to Ano and Kato Pavliana villages, before continuing on tracks and footpaths down through the village of Vouniatades. Pass Strongili, then it's an uphill stretch on an old cobbled path to Komianata, followed by a brief walk downhill - predominantly on pretty footpaths - to the village of Benitses.

  5. Day 5: Benitses to Pelekas

This tough day’s walking starts with a transfer to Stavros, following a delightful footpath that circles Agii Deka Mountain. At Ano Garouna, you can make a hard but short ascent to the summit of Corfu's second highest peak, Agii Deka. A series of undulating tracks with very fine views over the west coast and inland then bring you to Pelekas.

  6. Day 6: Pelekas to Liapades

After passing the village of Vatos, follow the Ropa River, bordered by fields and willow trees, before ascending to hills covered with olive trees and the trail to Liapades.

  7. Day 7: Rest day

You may choose to stay on the beach or at the pool in front of your hotel, walk up to Liapades and explore the old village or, weather permitting, rent a boat and head along the coastline to find your own deserted beach.

  8. Day 8: Liapades to Agios Georgios

Passing olive groves on your way uphill, make your way from Liapades to Agios Georgios, enjoying some of Europe's best views en route.

  9. Day 9: Agios Georgios to Ringini

A quiet, part-asphalt road takes you through agricultural land alongside the Megapotamos River. You then pass through the two straggling, fairly picturesque, villages of Agros and Agios Athanasios, followed by a section along a quiet road past the rich monastery belonging to the latter village. Tracks then take you on to the road junction at Ringini.

  10. Day 10: Ringini to Spartillas

Today's route takes you on tracks up a deep valley, before taking a lovely cobbled path to Sokraki, where you can enjoy a rest and take in the jovial atmosphere in the village square. Leaving Sokraki, continue through pastures on paths and tracks, with a gentle ascent to Spartillas.

  11. Day 11: Spartillas to Agios Spyridon & Kalami

Today starts with a steep mountain footpath, climbing up a gully to Taxiarchis Chapel, which offers you fabulous views. After descending on the mountain track, you'll come to the high col of the main ridge, with views to Corfu's north and south.

After descending to Old Perithia, reach the coast at Almiros and then walk on the beach to the most northernmost point on the island, a wild and bare headland.  A rough cliffpath then leads you to the end of the Corfu Trail at Saint Spiridon Beach. From here, take a taxi to your accommodation in Kalami (payable locally).

  12. Day 12: Rest day

You may choose to either laze on the beach, to eat at Lawrence Durrell’s White House, or to explore the lovely coastal path in the other direction.

  13. Day 13: Mountain & North East Coastal Circuit

Starting and finishing in Kalami, this is an almost circular walk which takes you uphill, following high mountain flanks to the village of Porta, before continuing to the semi-ruined village of Mengoulas.

  14. Day 14: Rest day

Enjoy your final day in Corfu - minus hiking boots! Relax on the beach and indulge yourself with a lazy day or, alternatively, visit bustling, historic Corfu Town.

  15. Day 15: Depart Corfu

Transfer by taxi to the airport.
