A 10-day walking holiday on the Corfu Trail, hiking from taverna to taverna through the rural countryside and coastline of beautiful Corfu.

  • Discover friendly mountain villages
  • Walk on age-old tracks & mule paths
  • Rolling hillsides, olive groves, vineyards & panoramas
  • Discover the rugged north-west of the island
  • Walk the entire Corfu Trail

This walk is a magnificent trip through the finest areas of the Greek island of Corfu. Following inland tracks and cobbled paths, the trail undulates through willow, cedar and juniper forest, alongside rivers and through lush pastures. Fine viewpoints of mountains and sea are a regular occurrence from the coastal tracks, ridges and when you summit Corfu’s second highest peak, Agii Deka (576 metres). Historic sights you pass include monasteries, manor houses and quayside tavernas, and there are ample opportunities for refreshing swims to cool down in the deep turquoise coloured Mediterranean Sea.

At the start of the wilder mountain section in the north, there is a stunning panorama from the ruined Taxiarchis Chapel with its beautiful fresco-covered walls. A limestone plateau is crossed, followed by the climb to the summit of Mount Pantokrator (915 metres). Towards the end, you traverse over a high col from where you can see both the southern trail you have walked and further to the north. You descend to Agios Spyridon beach and then finish the walk along the undulating paths on the northern coast.

This walk is also offered as a 2-week holiday, enabling you to complete the full trail, or as a 8-day option if you are looking for a shorter break to the paradise and peace of Greek island life. You will undoubtedly return home feeling refreshed, fit and relaxed after experiencing the charming walking on Corfu.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Corfu

Arrive Corfu and transfer by taxi to your accommodation in Asprokavos. If you arrive early enough, you may want to do the loop circuit from Asprokavos to Spartera and back.

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 300 m | Descent: 300 m

  2. Day 2: Asprokavos to Santa Barbara

On today's walk, you will cross over the southern part of the island to the east and back to the western coast. Starting from Asprokavos, hike through olive groves and fields to Lefkimmi. Leaving the second biggest town of the island, descend into the green valley of the Gardeno River.

The last part of the walk leads you up again, so you have wonderful views of both the east and west coasts, before descending to the west coast of the island and the town of Santa Barbara.

    Walking distance: 22 km | Ascent: 350 m | Descent: 350 m

  3. Day 3: Santa Barbara to Paramonas

An easy day of almost level walking during which you follow the beach, passing in front of the resort of Agios Georgios, but soon leaving 'civilisation' again. The beach here was used for scenes in the Bond film 'For Your Eyes Only', and there will be time for a swim here.

Your route leads on through sand dunes covered with a forest of juniper and cedar trees. Then, crossing a footbridge, you reach Lake Korission, where you are sure to see a variety of wild birds. Tracks and an undulating section of road take you to Paramonas.

    Walking distance: 20 km | Ascent: 200 m | Descent: 150 m

  4. Day 4: Paramonas to Benitses

A sharp climb early in the walk takes you up overgrown paths through olives groves and the views over the coastline are soon amazing. Descend through small villages and a valley to reach Strongili, from where you climb up to reach today's highest point of Dafnata. There is an option to continue even higher to the viewpoint at Mount Stavros, before making your way down to Coyevinas, and a forest trail that takes you to town of Benitses.

    Walking distance: 18 km | Ascent: 650 m | Descent: 650 m

  5. Day 5: Stavros to Pelekas

Today's climb takes you to the second highest peak of Corfu, Agi Deka. After a short transfer to Stavros, follow ancient footpaths through forest and limestone landscape, passing the village of Ano Garouna, and climbing steeply up to the summit of Agi Deka. Some descent and level walking takes you to the picturesque village of Pelekas.

    Walking distance: 18 km | Ascent: 650 m | Descent: 650 m

  6. Day 6: Pelekas to Liapades

A short downhill walk takes you the beautiful beach of Myrtiotissa, before you regain height with a steep climb on gravel and concrete tracks, from where you can enjoy fine views. Passing the village of Vatos, follow the bank at the Ropa River, bordered by pasture and willow trees. Leaving the river, you ascend into olive blanketed hills, where tracks lead you downhill to your accommodation at Liapades Beach.

    Walking distance: 23 km | Ascent: 650 m | Descent: 850 m

  7. Day 7: Liapades to Agios Georgios

A challenging footpath takes you first to  Paleokastritsa, before heading into the hills, using a network of lovely cobbled footpaths. A climb of about an hour takes you to Lakones and Bella Vista, across olive groves to Krini, through 'Lily Valley' to Makrades, then down one of Greece's most remarkable footpaths which cuts along a cliff and then down to the resort of Agios Georgios.

    Walking distance: 14 km | Ascent: 500 m | Descent: 500 m

  8. Day 8: Spartillas to Agios Spyridon & Kalami

Today the real mountain territory beckons!  Follow a steep mountain footpath to a fantastic viewpoint at Taxiarchis Chapel, before descending on a mountain track with fine views until you reach the high col of the main ridge, where both the northern and southern sections of Corfu are visible.

You then descend to Old Perithia, before reaching the sea at Almiros and following the beach to the wild, bare headland which is Corfu's northernmost point. You eventually reach the end of the Corfu Trail at Saint Spiridon Beach, from where you take a taxi to your accommodation in Kalami.

    Walking distance: 24 km | Ascent: 700 m | Descent: 950 m

  9. Day 9: Mountain & North East Coastal Circuit

Today is almost a circular walk that starts and finishes in Kalami. Climbing quickly into the hills, you then follow high mountain flanks past Porta and onto the semi-ruined Mengoulas.

    Walking distance: 16 km | Ascent: 600 m | Descent: 600 m

  10. Day 10: Depart Corfu

Transfer by taxi to the airport.
