This walking week provides an opportunity to explore the Alsace, a region of rural France which is often missed by seasoned walkers. This region is known for its picturesque villages, fine local wines and remnants of Alsace’s rich history, ranging from medieval fortresses to hidden WW2 bunkers, and remnants of the Maginot Line. Traverse picturesque mountain paths, uncovering charming villages and agricultural communities, whilst enjoying the warm hospitality of the locals.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Ribeauville

    Enjoy a tranquil evening savouring local delicacies and Alsatian wines, while preparing for your walking adventure that begins tomorrow.

  2. Day 2: Alsace Wine Route Ribeauvillé to Kaysersberg, via Riquewihr

    Today's walk takes you through some of the most charming wine villages to be found in this historic region.

  3. Day 3: Loop Walk Above Kaysersberg: History, Nature & Mountain Views

    This wine route traverses through vineyards and delightful forest trails, with stunning views to be enjoyed along its entirety.

  4. Day 4: Hike from Kaysersberg to Lapoutroie

    Today's walk begins with a forest ascent and continues into classic Vosges rolling countryside, interspersed with traditional farms.

    Walking distance: 18 km | Ascent: 760 m | Descent: 580 m

  5. Day 5: Hike from Le Bonhomme to Lapoutroie, via Tête des Faux

    From Le Bonhomme, today's scenic walk leads to the summit of Tête des Faux, where the panoramic vistas reveal well-preserved German bunkers amidst the remnants of lush beech forest.

    Walking distance: 11 km | Ascent: 570 m | Descent: 530 m

  6. Day 6: Walk from Hohnack to Munster

    After a short transfer to Chateau Hohnack, the trail continues via historic WW1 locations to the town of Munster.

    Walking distance: 11 km | Ascent: 300 m | Descent: 730 m

  7. Day 7: Hike the Petit Ballon Loop

    Today’s circular hike takes in the summit of Petit Ballon, one the Vosges' most iconic peaks, with spectacular views across the Alsace plain and surrounding mountains.

    Walking distance: 14 km | Ascent: 500 m | Descent: 500 m

  8. Day 8: Depart Alsace

    Say adieu to Alsace and continue your onward journey.
