Walking into Winter

As the days start to get shorter and the mornings get chillier, it’s impossible to ignore winter on the horizon. The arrival of winter does not, however, have to impact on your walking plans.

Whether you are looking for some winter sun or some picturesque snow-covered mountains, we’ve compiled a selection of brilliant winter walking trips, perfect to keep those winter blues at bay.

Burmese Temples & Trails

Despite Myanmar’s cold season coinciding with that of the UK, the country's temperate climate of between 20 and 24 degrees makes winter the perfect time for walking. The untouched countryside and incredible ancient temples of Myanmar are still relatively unexplored, making a trip here feel like a real exploration as you cycle around majestic temples in Bagan, cruise the serene Irrawaddy River and trek through remote villages, meeting and staying with friendly locals along the way.  The highlight of this trip is experiencing a stunning sunset and sunrise on the summit of the Golden Rock.

Austrian Snowshoeing Adventure

Start your new year by literally walking in a winter wonderland. This new trip is an alternative winter walking holiday, taking you to the stunning snow-covered landscapes of Austria’s Alpine region. Learn how to snowshoe as you explore your way through the beautiful countryside, before hiking the trails on Mt. Zwolferhorn to reach breathtaking panoramic views. Return home revitalised and stress free after walking around the tranquil, emerald green of Lake Fuschlsee, followed by added relaxation time at a wellness spa in St. Wolfgang.

Annapurna Sanctuary Lodge Trek

Finish 2018 on a high, by trekking in the spectacular Himalayas.  Walk to the 'Throne Room of Mountain Gods' for majestic high mountain scenery and picturesque landscapes. Trekking to the Annapurna Sanctuary is one of the easier Himalayan trails, but offers awe-inspiring mountain panoramas each day, that unfold with the rising sun - most spectacular are those from a dawn summit of Poon Hill. Our Annapurna in Style trip offers a more luxurious and slightly less demanding version of this trek.

Spice Trails of Kerala

With warm sunny days at this time of year, Kerala is the perfect destination for some winter sun. Trek through the fragrant Cardamom Hills, lush forests, tranquil plantation trails and tribal villages, on your way up to the high point of Meesapulimala for some incredible views. What’s more, a visit to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, home to elephants and tigers, is complemented with a relaxing trip to the lush tropical lagoons of the backwaters, staying on a traditional houseboat.
