This week of winter adventure in Austria is a fun alternative for any walker who wants a change of pace and experience something a little different.
Enjoy friendly Austrian hospitality while exploring this stunning alpine region under a blanket of snow. Learn how to snowshoe before you hike trails in the picturesque landscape of the Salzkammergut region. A mix of forests and meadows and higher alpine landscape, you will be captivated by this adventure.
Snowy mountains and forests covered with white untouched glittery nature is what awaits you in the wintry world of the Salzkammergut. In between hikes refuel with hot chocolate in the cosy and inviting mountain huts.

Fly to Salzburg or Munich and make your way to your accommodation in Bad Goisern by public bus or taxi.
This morning, you transfer to the Krippenstein cable carstation.
After ascending to the high cable car station, you begin your snowshoe trek towards the Gjaidalm. The path to Wiesberghaus is gently undulating along a karst plateau. Enjoy a break on the sun terrace before taking the path back to the cable car station and heading back to Bad Goisern.
Walking distance: 11 km
Transfer to the valley of Gosau, which is known for its wonderful panorama of Lake Gosausee with the highest mountains in the area, the Dachstein in the background. In winter, the mountains around the town are filled with skiiers. The most famous export of the area is one of the most successful skiers of all time, Marcel Hirscher.
First you snow shoe to Ramsau where the path leads you through a forest area towards an alpine pasture. At the Goisererhütte there is a fabulous panoramic view over the valley of Goisern. Depending on your stamina, you can continue, passing the Kalmooskirche cave and onto the Kalmberg Mountain before you head back to Gosau.
Walking distance: 12 km
Take a bus to Altaussee at the foot of Mount Loser. At the lower station of the Loser cable cars, you snowshoe along the cross country ski slope to Loseralm hut. From here, enjoy a breathtaking view over Lake Altaussee and the Ausseerland area.
After the descent, you return to Bad Aussee by bus.
Walking distance: 14 km
Today you take a taxi to the Narzissenbad Aussee to regenerate your muscles in natural brine from the salt mines of Altaussee, the biggest salt deposit in Austria. Even during a sauna session, you can still enjoy the views of the Salzkammergut mountain range.
