Hiking in Iceland on the Laugavegur Trek - What to Expect

Our new walking holiday to Iceland is a must for any nature lover. We posed some questions to our partners there to find out what makes this trip so special and why you should consider it for your next holiday.

What makes Iceland so unique?

The vastness of the unspoiled nature, the volcanic landscape and the bright summer nights. All this combines and it's unlike anything else you can find on earth. It's a truly remarkable country with plenty to offer hikers.

What makes this trek different to other hikes in Europe?

No day is the same as we traverse a variety of landscapes which are very different from the day before - from volcanic lava fields and boiling hot springs to black sand desert and green woods. Witnessing the contrasting colours of the land is a feast for the eyes.

There will be many geological sites of interest to see along the way such as Alftavatn lake (in English, Swan Lake), Sönghellir Cave, both near and far glaciers such as the mighty Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and snow-capped volcanoes glinting in the distance. A number of bird species can be found in this nature reserve including white-tailed eagle, rock ptarmigan and gryfalcon.
