We've got this diverse and fascinating sub-continent covered. Trek along the Singalila Ridge in the shadow of Kangchenjunga, across the wilds of the Changtang plateau to the beautiful turquoise lake of Tsomoriri, or in Kerala's fragrant Cardamom Hills in the tropical south. Enjoy a backwater cruise, and explore famous Buddhist monasteries and Ladakh, the jewel in the crown of India.
"Kerala is the green jewel of India that can only be entirely experienced through hiking in the Western Ghats and among the plantations. The people of Kerala make this a gem of an area in which to hike, where nature and culture come together." Barbara Elser, Spice Trails of Kerala
Walks Worldwide offers a range of trips to India with varying degrees of difficulty. In Kerala, the trekking conditions are fairly straightforward, following very good trails and in Darjeeling, walking conditions underfoot are easy and follow good trails at all times. Ladakh and the Markha Valley offer more challenging walks, following trails used by the nomadic herdsmen with stony conditions underfoot and a series of high passes. With the exception of Kerala, our trips are at high altitudes which will add to the challenge. Accommodation includes simple but comfortable hotels, guesthouses, tents and a houseboat.
The best time of year to travel to southern India is from November to April - the cool, dry season. Ladakh in the north is accessible between June and October.
