This truly excellent holiday combines wonderful trekking, history, fascinating and diverse culture, plus some sightseeing, making it ideal for regular hill walkers seeking their first Himalayan trekking adventure, or as an easier walking experience in the Himalayas.

Explore Darjeeling - the ‘Queen of the Hills’ - and the surrounding towns. During your trek you will be passing through forests of woodland and rhododendron, You’ll be walking along the border between India and Nepal, and your left leg will be technically 15 minutes behind your right leg, due to the time difference between the two countries!  A highlight of the trek though is reaching the high point at Sandakhpu (3,636 metres) where mighty Kangchenjunga dominates the whole horizon, presenting the possibility of an absolutely breathtaking sunset and sunrise.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

    Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Delhi.

  2. Day 2: Arrive Delhi

    On arrival in Delhi you will be met and transferred to your overnight accommodation.

  3. Day 3: Transfer to Darjeeling

    You will be transferred to Delhi Airport for a flight to Bagdogra, and then onward by road to Darjeeling, taking approximately three hours. The rest of the day has been left free for you to enjoy at your leisure.

  4. Day 4: Full day sightseeing in Darjeeling

    Enjoy a full day sightseeing in Darjeeling, ’Queen of the Hills’, including an early morning visit to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise (approximately 4am). Then take the Toy Train from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back, with visits to Ghoom Monastery, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Centre, Tea Garden and Japanese Temple.

  5. Day 5: Trek to Tumling/Tonglu

    You will be transferred to Manebhanjang for the start of your trek, where the trail will take you along the Nepalese border and through rhododendron forest.

  6. Day 6: Tumling/Tonglu to Gairibaas

    Take some time to enjoy the mountain views before you start the day's walk. Trekking through the Singalila National Park today, you might get the chance to views some of the natural wildlife.

  7. Day 7: Trek to Sandakphu

    Today you trek towards the highest point of the Singalila Ridge at Sandakphu (3,636 metres), with stunning views over the mountain range. On clear days you may get a glimpse of Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, among others.

  8. Day 8: Sandakphu to Rimbik

    An early morning wake up call gives you the chance to witness the sunrise over the cloud and mountains. After breakfast you will start the gentle descent through cardamom plantations and past traditional villages on your way down to Rimbik

  9. Day 9: Scenic day drive to Kalimpong

    Today you will transfer from Rimbik to Kalimpong; the road follows the river, with scenic views all the way to your destination.

  10. Day 10: Full day sightseeing in Kalimpong

    Today you can enjoy visiting some of Kalimpong's famous sites including Deolo Hills, Dr. Grahams Home, Flower Nurseries, Jang-Dog-Palrifro-Brang Gompa, Mangal Dham, Tibetan Church and Durbin Dara Hills.

  11. Day 11: Morning transfer to Pelling, afternoon at leisure

    Today you will transfer by road to Pelling (2,160 metres), a beautiful hill resort surrounded by the snowcapped mountain range. Afternoon at leisure.

  12. Day 12: Sightseeing en route to Gangtok

    This morning you will visit Pemayanstse Monastery and Rabdandtse, the ruins of the old capital, before continuing to towards Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.

  13. Day 13: Morning sightseeing, afternoon at leisure

    This morning enjoy a city tour of Gangtok including Rumtek Monastery, Do-Dul Chorten, the Institute of Tibetology and the flower show. Afternoon at leisure.

  14. Day 14: Transfer to Bagdogra & fly to Delhi

    Today you will transfer back to Bagdogra for your domestic flight to Delhi.

  15. Day 15: Fly back to the UK

    You will be transferred from your hotel to Delhi Airport in time for your return flight to the UK.
