This Arctic expedition from Iceland explores Greenland’s dramatic fjords by ship and on foot, combining guided hikes, Zodiac cruises and wildlife encounters in one of the world’s most remote and striking landscapes.

  • Zodiac cruises past towering icebergs
  • Hike across dramatic Arctic landscapes
  • Spot whales & Arctic wildlife
  • Guided walks with expert leaders

Journey to Greenland aboard a purpose-built expedition vessel and travel deep into Scoresby Sound, the world’s largest fjord system. Enjoy guided walks across tundra and glacier-edged coasts, Zodiac cruise past icebergs and spend time spotting whales, seabirds and Arctic wildlife.

Your days at sea offer time to relax, learn from knowledgeable guides, and take in the ever-changing Arctic scenery. Landings reveal remote settlements, volcanic islands and vast wilderness shaped by ice, creating a memorable balance of exploration, activity and quiet reflection.

Hikes in Greenland offer a unique chance to experience the Arctic on foot. The hikes vary from two to three hours for the morning or afternoon landings, and up to eight hours for the full days off the boat.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Join the ship in Akureyri

Our Greenland voyage and hiking adventure begins at the Port of Akureyri, Iceland.

The ship must be boarded by mid-afternoon before its early evening departure; therefore, if you're travelling from Reykjavik this morning, please allow ample time to reach the port.

Transfers from Reykjavik can be arranged.

  2. Day 2: Day at sea

Today's a chance for us to relax, explore the ship or partake in onboard activities.

Throughout our cruise, there are a variety of talks and workshops to learn about the areas you're visiting, their history, and native wildlife.

As the ship continues north, keep an eye out for birds such as fulmars, gannets and kittiwakes, which are often spotted during Greenlandic crossings.

  3. Day 3: Fjords, glaciers and beyond

Today, we arrive in Scoresby Sound, our journey taking us along the glacier-draped shoreline of Volquart Boons Kyst.

Weather permitting, we enjoy a Zodiac cruise along a glacier front, offering a close-up view of the ice in motion. We explore the striking columns and ice formations of Vikingebugt, a secluded bay known for its dramatic volcanic rock structures.

The ship continues along the coast of Milne Land. In the afternoon, if conditions allow, we use the Zodiacs to reach Charcot Havn, a scenic bay where we embark on a guided walk to the glacier.

  4. Day 4: Sorte Ø and Røde Fjord

This morning, we aim to take a Zodiac cruise to the black volcanic island of Sorte Ø. The area is renowned for its surreal landscape, where towering blue-white icebergs are a strong contrast to the dark slopes.

In the afternoon, the ship sails through the northern reaches of Røde Fjord, named for its iron-rich, reddish slopes. From there, we continue into Harefjord - a wide, tranquil fjord, known for its natural beauty and wildlife.

  5. Day 5: Trek from Sydkap to Nordøstbugt

Today begins by drifting alongside colossal icebergs, some rising over 100 metres and stretching more than a kilometre in length. Later in the morning, we land near Sydka.

If conditions allow, today we embark on a long hike. After setting foot on the shore, from Sydkap we take a guided hike to the sheltered bay of Nordøstbugt. Our hike follows the gently undulating Arctic landscape and leads to the estuary where a river, fed by the nearby Holger Danskes Briller, flows into the sea. The trail leads us by the shore to Satakajik, where our Zodiacs take us back onboard.

    Walking distance: 12 kilometres

  6. Day 6: Visit Ittoqqortoormiit

Today begins with a landing on the tundra of Liverpool Land, a rugged and remote peninsula that forms the eastern edge of Hurry Inlet. A walk on this stark yet beautiful landscape offers a close look at the hardy ecosystems.

In the afternoon, we visit Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest and most isolated settlement in the Scoresby Sound region, home to around 500 Inuit residents. Founded in 1925, the town is one of the most remote in Greenland and retains deep ties to traditional subsistence hunting.

Later, the ship begins its journey south along the Blosseville Coast, known for its towering cliffs, jagged peaks, and glacier-fed fjords.

  7. Day 7: Stewart Ø

Today we cruise to Stewart Ø, a remote island that serves as an important traditional hunting station for the Inuit community. The Arctic outpost also offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, and the area is a prime habitat for polar bears.

  8. Day 8: Turner Sound and Rømer Fjords

We discover our final Greenlandic landscapes today. Cruising into the Turner Sound and Rømer Fjords offers a different experience; as the fjords don't have glacial fronts, we can cruise deep into their open waters.

As we exit the fjords, we recommend staying on deck or close to a window to enjoy our last glimpses of the spectacular Greenlandic scenery.

  9. Day 9: Day at sea

Similar to our first day at sea, today can be enjoyed exploring the ship, relaxing with your new friends, and looking out for seabirds and whales as we journey back to Iceland.

  10. Day 10: Disembark the ship

This morning, say goodbye to your crew and fellow passengers as your Greenland expedition comes to an end.

After disembarking, continue as per your independent arrangements. Transfers to Reykjavik and post-cruise nights can be arranged with our travel consultants.

Please note: The itinerary reflects the planned schedule, however, depending on ice, weather and wildlife conditions, there may be changes, which can be last-minute. This is due to landings ashore being subject to availability and needing to be in line with AECO regulations. We strongly suggest being comfortable with itinerary flexibility, as it allows you to make the most of this expedition.

There are a few different cabin types on the ship, from quadruple porthole rooms to superior cabins. More information on the cabin types can be found within the travel plan.
