Discover Stockholm’s rich history and vibrant culture before embarking on the Sörmland Trail, one of Sweden’s longest and most scenic hiking routes. Traverse some of the most beautiful stretches of the Sörmlandsleden hiking trail, walking eight to 20 kilometres per day.
This walking holiday offers a blend of forests, picturesque lakes, and charming villages. Explore highlights such as Nävekvarn village, Nyköping Castle, and tranquil nature reserves while walking along peaceful trails. With opportunities to swim, relax, and experience Swedish heritage, this itinerary perfectly combines active exploration and relaxation.
Typical Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Stockholm
Make your own way to your hotel in Stockholm. Depending on your arrival time, you may wish to spend the rest of the day exploring the city’s vibrant architecture.

Day 2: Hike along the Scenic Nyköping River
Take a train from Stockholm to Nyköping. Beginning in the town centre, the trail leads you from the picturesque harbour along the river, then takes you into the surrounding countryside.
Today's trek, Section 45 of the trail, passes the Slabro Rock Carvings, the Hållet Nature Reserve and the Nyköpingshus Castle, before the trail reaches the small town of Oppeby. From here, return to Nyköping by bus.

Day 3: Trek from Lake Nävsjön to Nävekvarn
Today's walk consists of two sections, a loop of the lake and section 36 of the Sörmland Trail. After a transfer to Lake Nävsjön, set out on the first portion of the hike. This section follows the lake’s shoreline, offering beautiful, uninterrupted views. Continuing, the trail leads into the Nävsjön Nature Reserve, where you pass through a forest. The trail meets the Baltic Sea at Bråviken and ascends to a viewpoint, with views across the surrounding landscape. From here, descend to Nävekvarn.

Day 4: Hike the Trails of Koppartorp
Following a bus ride to Buskhyttan, begin today’s adventure to the village of Koppartorp, where three scenic loops make up the day's hiking route. The first loop takes you along the base of Kummelberget Hill. The second loop explores an old mining area, and the final loop ascends to picturesque views from the top of Simonberget Hill.
After completing these loops, continue to the culturally and historically rich Koppartorp. After exploring, return on foot to Buskhyttan and catch a bus back to Nävekvarn.

Day 5: Hike the Bråviken Coast
Today's hike provides a journey along the Bråviken Coast, with sweeping coastal views from trails that run beside the water and from elevated hillside paths. Bråviken’s unique rock formations and coves add to the landscape’s charm. Along the way, you pass numerous beaches, perfect for a restful pause or to enjoy a refreshing swim.
At the end of the trail, a transfer takes you to Nyköping.

Day 6: Hike in the Lindbacke-Svanbacke Nature Reserve
Your final hike of the holiday is section 44 of the Sörmlandsleden Trail. Beginning in Nyköping, cross the picturesque Lindbacke-Svanbacke Nature Reserve, with its rolling meadows and fields dotted with wildflowers. As you continue, the trail winds into the Ryssberget Forest, where rocky outcrops and pine trees create a tranquil atmosphere.
At the end of the hike, a transfer takes you to the train station, for your return to Stockholm.

Day 7: Depart Stockholm
Today marks the end of your journey along Swedish hiking trails. Make your own way to the airport or your onward destination.
If you wish to have more time in Sweden, please speak to your travel consultant regarding adding additional nights.
