Journey through Sri Lanka’s heartland on the Pekoe Trail, where tea-covered hillsides, ancient forest paths, and sweeping mountain views come together in a culturally rich adventure.

Starting in Kandy, this trip takes us through iconic estates, such as Hanthana and Pedro, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Horton Plains. Optional ascents of Adam’s Peak at sunrise and scenic paths through eucalyptus forests promise unforgettable highlights. Breathtaking mountain and valley views bring even more variety to the journey, and each stage provides insights into Sri Lanka’s natural beauty and rich tea heritage, leading to a memorable conclusion at the historic Pedro Tea Estate near Nuwara Eliya.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Sri Lanka

    Depart from London Heathrow to Colombo International Airport.

  2. Day 2: Welcome to Colombo

    Arrive in Colombo and transfer to Kandy. Time permitted you can explore the town and its famous landmarks.

  3. Day 3: Trek from Kandy to Deltota

    Begin the first stage of The Pekoe Trail at the Ceylon Tea Museum, trekking through Hanthana Tea Estate, passing stunning ridges, villages, and scenic estates, and end in Deltota's vibrant town for your hotel stay.

  4. Day 4: Trek from Deltota to Thawalamthenna

    Today’s trek covers Stages 2 and 3 of the Pekoe Trail, from Deltota through Sri Lanka’s historic Loolkandura Estate to Thawalamthenna, passing tea fields, rainforests, scenic views, and Ramboda’s waterfalls before an evening transfer to Kotagala.

  5. Day 5: Trek from Kotagara to Norwood

    Begin Stage 7 of the Pekoe Trail, trekking 15 km from Kotagala to Norwood through tea estates, scenic lakes, and valleys, with views of Hatton, Castlereagh Reservoir, and historic tea factories along the way. 

    Walking distance: 16 km

  6. Day 6: Day of Leisure

    For an extra fee, you can opt to hike famous Adam’s Peak for the sunrise (December to May only). Alternatively, relax in your hotel or explore the surroundings – on your own or with free of charge activities.

  7. Day 7: Trek from Norwood to Bogawanthalawa

    Today’s trek takes you through tea country, with scenic views of Castlereagh Lake, Adam’s Peak, and lush valleys before reaching Bogawanthalawa.

    Walking distance: 16 km

  8. Day 8: Trek from Bogawanthalawa to Nuwara Eliya

    Begin an early trek on Stage 9 of the Pekoe Trail, a 16.4 km journey from Bogawantalawa to Dayagama, ascending Jacob's Ladder with stunning views and passing tea estates, forests, and peaceful valleys.

  9. Day 9: Trek from Nuwara Eliya to Udaweriya

    Start early with a packed breakfast for a 9 km trek through Horton Plains’ scenic highlights, then continue Stage 11 of the Pekoe Trail, descending the "Devil's Staircase" through remote valleys and tea fields to Ohiya.

    Walking distance: 22 km

  10. Day 10: Trek from Udaweriya to Haputale

    After breakfast, begin Stage 12 of the Pekoe Trail, a 15 km trek from Udaweriya to Haputale, passing the Udaweriya Tea Factory, Idalgashinna Train Station, and the scenic Thangamale Sanctuary, ending at Haputale Station.

  11. Day 11: Trek from Makulella to Demodara

    Today's trek covers stages 15 and 16 of the Pekoe Trail from Makulella to Demodara, descending through forests, visiting Ella Rock and the Nine Arches Bridge, and concluding at Demodara Railway Station.

    Walking distance: 19 km

  12. Day 12: Trek from Kandapola to Pedro

    Today's trek is the final stage of the Pekoe Trail, from Kandapola to Pedro, featuring tea fields, the historic Courtlodge Tea Factory, and an optional visit to Lover’s Leap Waterfall before concluding at Pedro Estate. Transfer to Colombo for the last night.

  13. Day 13: Departure day

    We're transferred to Colombo airport in time for our departure flight.
