South Africa has so much to offer and on this walking-focussed safari, you will explore a variety of scenic and cultural destinations within the country. This is an active holiday and the level of walking is varied from leisurely to challenging.
In Mpumalanga you can soak up the mountains and marvel at waterfalls before heading on to the famed Kruger National Park and its iconic wildlife. Learn about the fascinating Zulu culture and walk along mountain stream paths in the 200 kilometre-long Drakensberg Mountains.
Typical Itinerary

Day 1: Depart UK
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Johannesburg.

Day 2: Arrive Johannesburg
Arrive in Johannesburg and rendezvous at the group hotel in the city.

Day 3: Transfer to Mpumalanga
Drive to Mpumalanga, visit the gold-mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest and enjoy spectacular views of the Lowveld from God’s Window. Take a short, leisurely walk to the waterfalls of Mac Mac pools.

Day 4: Blyde River Canyon
Today we hike in Blyde River Canyon, walking down from the rim and into the canyon. As we walk we have beautiful views of Three Sisters and the Kadisi River.
We have a short lunch break and then the afternoon is spent walking through the forests and past waterfalls that Mpumalanga is renowned for. There is also the option to take the Graskop Gorge Lift down the face of the gorge and onto the wooden walkways through the Afromontane forest.

Days 5-6 : Kruger National Park
We spend the day enjoying walking safaris (3-4 hours walking) & afternoon game drives where we hope to track wildlife on foot. We search for elephants and rhino and of course we hope to see lion, buffalo, a range of antelope and perhaps leopard.

Days 7-8 : Malolotja Nature Reserve
Today we depart South Africa and transfer to neighbouring Eswatini. Here we spend time in the mountains of Malolotja Nature Reserve, enjoying walks through the beautiful countryside & witnessing the impressive Malolotja Falls

Day 9: Zululand Game Reserves
Crossing back into South Africa, today we visit a private game reserve where we take a walking safari and enjoy some birdwatching.

Day 10: Hluhluwe Game Reserve
We journey back into South Africa and visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve which focuses on rhino conservation. In the afternoon we take a walking tour through the Zulu village of Nomphondo to learn about the local community.

Day 11: Dundee
We transfer to Dundee and visit the informative Tulana museum.

Day 12: Isandlwana Battlefields
This morning we visit the Isandlwana Battlefields and find out more about the devastating battle, before a challenging hike through undulating hills to the Buffalo River, retracing the footsteps of the two British fugitives.

Days 13-14 : Transfer to the Drakensberg mountains
Travel to the Drakensberg mountains where, on the following day, we enjoy a full day of walking the mountain trails before an invigorating dip in the clear mountain streams of Royal Natal National Park & Tugela Gorge.

Day 15: Witesiechock
Trek to the top of the Drakensberg Amphitheatre and the beautiful Tugela Falls. Afterwards, relax in our lodge overlooking the Mont-Aux-Sources mountain range.

Day 16: Transfer to Johannesburg & depart
The tour ends at around 17:00 in Johannesburg, where we board an overnight flight back to the UK.
