Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Thessaloniki & transfer to Pades Village

Arrive into Thessaloniki by 11am, from where you will be transferred to the mountainous village of Pades, which sits at an altitude of 1,140 metres at the foothills of Mt Smilikas. Enjoy a relaxed hike around the village this afternoon.

  2. Day 2: Conquer Mt Smolikas

Today you will trek to the peak of Mt Smolikas, Greece’s second highest peak and the highest in the Pindos mountain range at 2,637 metres. Ascending from the village square, you will pass through lush coniferous forest, home to some of Greece's rarest wildflowers. Stop for a dip in the crystal clear (but cold!) Smolikas Alpine Lake, followed by an optional steep climb to the summit. Descend to the village of Palioseli.

  3. Day 3: Hiking up to Gamila’s Crest

Today you will conquer Gamila's Crest, which is Tymfi's highest peak at 2,496 metres. With magnificent views, take some time to explore and rest before making your way to the mountain refuge where you will stay for the night and hopefully enjoy some stargazing.

  4. Day 4: Dragon Lake & Papigo Village

Ascending from Pades Village to Smolikas Alpine Lake with its crystal clear waters, you may be tempted to go for a swim – be warned, it’s very cold! Continue to the summit on a steep path, carved into the stony slope. Descending on a different path, you will reach the village of Palioseli and visit one of the few remaining watermills in Greece.

  5. Day 5: Rest day in Small Papigo with optional relaxed walk to Big Papigo

The beautiful village of Mikro Papigo is a great place to rest and experience traditional village life. This afternoon there is an opportunity to walk to Big Papigo, or arrange an optional visit to a spa or enjoy a rafting trip.

  6. Day 6: Vikos Gorge Traverse

Starting the day with a descent into the bottom of Vikos Gorge, where the landscape offers diverse relief with abrupt altitude changes, steep slopes and precipitous rocky cliffs. After ending this full day trek in Monodendri Village, transfer to Elafotopos Village where you will stay the night.

  7. Day 7: Circular walk around little Zagorian paths

Today you will follow easy paths around the nearby villages of Vitsa, Koukouli, Kipi and Dilofo. The trail will take you through traditional stone built paths and arched bridges, with a few little river crossings.

  8. Day 8: Hike through pristine forest

Leaving the traditional area of Zagoria behind, you will move to the more remote area Grammos mountain area. Starting in the abandoned village of Lianotopi, hike in an area of extreme natural beauty, passing through pristine pine and beech forest and dramatic cliff formations. Walking along the Aliakmonas Rover, head towards the village of Grammousta.

  9. Day 9: Gistova Alpine Lake & Tsouka Petsik Peak

Today you will hike to Gistova Lake, Greece’s largest alpine lake. This challenging walk takes you through alpine meadows and through beautiful scenery, with an optional ascenet to Tsouka Petsik Peak.

  10. Day 10: Transfer to Thessaloniki & fly back to the UK

A single timed transfer will take you back to Thessaloniki Airport in time for your return flight.
