The Southern French Alps is a land of scenic beauty, characterised by mountains, valleys and alpine meadows. Visitors can anticipate spectacular mountains, forests, awe-inspiring vistas and delightful alpine hospitality.

This tour is a combination of spectacular walking and indulging in local gastronomy every evening. We've selected accommodation that are well known for their delicious cuisine typical of the region.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Gap

    Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel in St Maurice, located in the heart of the Ecrins Massif.

  2. Day 2: Full day hiking from Navette to the Devil’s Cauldron

    Our first walk provides a perfect introduction to the Ecrins National Park. Commencing at La Chapelle, we will encounter a breathtaking hanging valley adorned with alpine meadows teeming with butterflies, stunning cascades, and a plethora of historical sights. On our descent, we traverse the devil's couldron, a roaring canyon of waterfalls.

  3. Day 3: Hiking in the Valgaudemar valley

    Beginning in the Valgaudemar Valley, discover the spectacular, classic alpine landscapes as you ascend into the landscape. Admire the renowned Bride's Veil waterfall and enjoy a picnic with views of Lac du Lauzon and the Ecrins.

    On completion of our circuit, we will have a well-deserved ice cream before returning to our accommodation for an evening of local delicacies.

  4. Day 4: Walk to Pic de Gleize mountain

    Today we take an undemanding summit climb through wooded areas and lush pastures to the mountain pass. Here you can choose to enjoy the scenery before returning, or continue up a steeper ascent to the summit. On reaching the summit, enjoy sweeping views while enjoying a well-earned picnic, before making our descent.

    On our return journey, we will visit the medieval village of St Bonnet and explore the narrow cobblestone streets and ancient ramparts.

  5. Day 5: Day of leisure

    Today is a free day to relax or enjoy local activities such as rock climbing, via ferrata, canyoning, or paragliding. Most activities occupy half a day, allowing you time to unwind for the rest of the day.

    For food enthusiasts, it is possible to arrange a lunch at a local restaurant which holds the esteemed title of "Maître Restaurateur." this French certification acknowledges outstanding quality and culinary expertise.

  6. Day 6: Full day hiking to the Refuge du Tourond

    From the hamlet of Les Borels, we embark on a walking day through delightful alpine forests to the Refuge du Torond. Upon arrival, we will have a relaxing lunch on the terrace, surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. From here, take a short walk to La Pisse waterfall.

    On our return, we will visit a Shepherds' museum that offers a captivating glimpse into the life of an Alpine shepherd.

    Walking distance: 8 km | Ascent: 450 m

  7. Day 7: Full walking day from Prapic to Saut du Laire waterfall

    Explore the remote alpine village of Prapic, the final inhabited settlement in the Champsaur Valley before it is enveloped by mountains. From the village, take a gentle climb to a picturesque plateau and the dramatic Saut du Laire waterfall.
