Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Albania

    Upon arrival at Tirana Airport, a transfer takes you approximately four hours to the Zagoria Valley and Peshtan. 

  2. Day 2: Hiking trails to Limar

    The first hike of the holiday follows an old road, ascending through woodland to a mountain pass with panoramic valley views, and the peaks of Dhembeli, Nemercka, and Bureto. It continues through fields to the village of Kala and over Ottoman stone bridges. The last section follows an ancient cobbled path with stunning views of Mount Strakavec until reaching the stone village of Limar.

    Walking distance: 11 km | Ascent: 750 m | Descent: 425 m

  3. Day 3: Witness rural life from Limar to Holy Apostles

    Embark on an exciting day hike from Limar to Hoshtevë, winding through rural footpaths and charming hamlets. Witness the local culture, traditional farming, and beekeeping while enjoying stunning mountain views and the Doshnica Waterfall. Upon reaching Hoshtevë, we recommend visiting the historic Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles.

  4. Day 4: In the footsteps of explorer Bill Tilman

    Today's hike offers stunning views of Mount Cajupi and follows historic paths once tread by legendary explorer Bill Tilman. Explore military remnants in the town of Nivan and Tilman’s memorial, then descend to the river, passing an ancient monastery and one of Ali Pasha’s stone bridges. The route ends in Sheper, where many Aroman shepherds, once nomadic, settled during the communist era.

  5. Day 5: Hiking the Dhembel Pass

    Crossing the Dhembel-Nemercke Range offers a challenging and rewarding hike, frequented by local shepherds from as far as Konispol. Hikers are rewarded with stunning views of Enver Hoxha's bunkers, Mount Cajupi, and the Eastern Mountains whilst following the Dhembel Pass at 1,450 metres. The adventure continues with a rocky descent to Leuse, renowned for its fresco-covered church, before reaching the hotel in Permet.

    Walking distance: 10 km | Ascent: 625 m | Descent: 1,250 m

  6. Day 6: Sopot Waterfall & Benja Springs

    A scenic transfer brings hikers to the trailhead, with views of the Vjosa River's turquoise waters and the dramatic Nemercka Range. The hike follows the river to the stunning Sopot Waterfall and the Langarica Canyon, where visitors can relax in the healing thermal pools of Benje. After exploring, there's a transfer to the UNESCO town of Gjirokaster. 

    Walking distance: 6 km | Ascent: 350 m | Descent: 350 m

  7. Day 7: Morning in Gjirokaster and transfer to Tirana

    The morning is free for relaxation or exploration of Gjirokaster before a transfer to Tirana. 

    Recommended sights include the historic Old Bazaar, where local crafts and Albanian pastries can be seen and purchased, and the Gjirokaster Castle. Visitors can explore the cobbled streets and admire Ottoman-era houses such as the Skenduli House. 

  8. Day 8: Depart Albania

    A transfer takes you to the airport in time for your return flight. 

    If you would like more time to explore Gjirokaster or Tirana, please contact us about adding extra nights to your trip. We can also extend your holiday on the Ionian Coast.

Please note: While hiking in remote areas, you may encounter stray or shepherd dogs. Accommodation includes homestays with private bedrooms, shared bathrooms and communal lounges for an authentic rural experience, and hotel stays with en suite rooms.
