This adventure holiday in Finland is all about fun and activity – from a day’s cross-country skiing, to a mini snowshoe overnight expedition into the wilds to stay in a remote wilderness cabin.

  • Drive your own husky sled
  • Enjoy fun in the Taiga snow
  • See the Northern Lights
  • Build an igloo & enjoy Finnish-style saunas
  • Have a go at snowshoeing

Just beneath the Arctic Circle, the wilderness forests and frozen lakes of the Taiga are the perfect location for this winter fun adventure holiday.

There’s the thrill of driving your own husky sled team and making your own igloo. If you’re happy with your igloo you can even spend the night in it, or return to the warmth of your cosy log cabin if you prefer.

A free day is built into the itinerary, when you can try your hand at ice-fishing, visit a reindeer farm, or do some more snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

After each day’s fun in the snow you can enjoy a Finnish-style sauna.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Kuusamo or Oulu

Fly from the UK to Kuusamo or Oulu (via Helsinki).

  2. Day 2: Morning introduction; afternoon cross-country skiing

In the morning you will be given an introduction to the area in which you are based and the rest of the week ahead. In the afternoon you will learn the basics of the most popular winter activity in Finland - cross-country skiing. You can then test out your newly acquired skills as we head out over a virtually flat landscape through a winter wonderland of snow covered pine forests and across frozen lakes.

  3. Day 3: Overnight showshoe expedition

Time to get a bit wilder on an overnight snowshoe expedition into the wilderness.

  4. Day 4: Across frozen lakes & over ridges by snowshoe

There is always the possibility of encountering tracks of elk, wolverine, pine marten or wolf as we head over undulating ground. Who knows, we may have even walked over a deeply snow-covered den of a bear far below and underground in hibernation!

  5. Day 5: Learn how to make your own igloo

Today is devoted to the art of igloo building, Finnish style. Basically, create a huge pile of snow and hollow it out - easier said than done, as there is skill as well as muscle involved. After all the exertions of helping build an igloo, what could be more satisfying than sleeping in it overnight?

  6. Day 6: Optional activities day

A day of options: more cross-country skiing, more snowshoeing, try your hand at ice-fishing or even visit a reindeer farm.

  7. Day 7: Husky sledding!

Today is possibly the highlight of the whole week’s winter adventure - the opportunity to go husky sledding.

  8. Day 8: Transfer to Kuusamo or Oulu & fly back to the UK
