Colombia is a land of scenic beauty, characterised by an extraordinary variety of landscapes. Situated in north-western South America, the country shares the Amazon Rainforest and vast plains of Los Llanos, in addition to having coastlines on both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

On this walking trip, visitors can anticipate spectacular mountains, forests, awe-inspiring vistas and vibrant coastal cities. The coffee plantation experience offers a fascinating insight into the cultural history of a country of many surprises.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

  2. Day 2: Arrive in Bogotá, the Capital of Colombia

    Upon arrival, you're transferred to your hotel in Bogotá city centre. Following this, enjoy a half-day city walking tour exploring the historic La Candelaria neighbourhood.

  3. Day 3: Hiking at La Chorrera & Chiflón

    Today, embark on a day of walking within the Parque Aventura la Chorrera Ecopark. This acclimatisation walk provides a perfect introduction to Colombia’s diverse and varied topography.

    Walking distance: 7 kilometres | Ascent: 225 metres | Descent: 225 metres

  4. Day 4: Trekking in Chingaza National Park

    After a 2-hour drive east of Bogotá, we spend the day exploring Chingaza National Park, located on the eastern range of the Andean Mountain chain. Discover the spectacular, rugged landscapes and glacial lakes that are home to a wealth of diverse wildlife.

    Walking distance: 7 kilometres | Ascent: 450 metres | Descent: 400 metres

  5. Day 5: Internal Flight from Bogota to Armenia, Colombia

    Following an internal flight to Armenia, we settle in to our next location of Salento before heading out on our half-day tour of El Ocaso Hacienda coffee plantation.

  6. Day 6: Hiking in Cocora Valley & Acaime Hummingbird Reserve

    Today we enjoy a full day following a stunning route around the majestic Cocora Valley in Los Nevados National Park, ending at the Acaime Hummingbird Reserve.

    Walking distance: 12 kilometres | Ascent: 280 metres | Descent: 275 metres

  7. Day 7: Hike the Peñas Blancas Trail

    After breakfast, enjoy a full walking day through the delightful forests of Peñas Blancas, showcasing the full array of the fauna and flora typical of the Quindio region. The 5-kilometre ascent rewards us with stunning panoramic views of Colombia's world heritage landscapes.

    Walking distance: 5 kilometres | Ascent: 880 metres | Descent: 800 metres

  8. Day 8: Hiking at Alto Tablazo & Finca la Romelia

    Today we take a memorable scenic hike through cloud forest and coffee plantations from the village of Alto Tablazo to Hacienda Venecia, followed by a visit to Finca la Romelia for a beautiful orchid and landscapes tour.

    Walking distance: 7 kilometres | Ascent: 310 metres | Descent: 310 metres

  9. Day 9: Internal Flight from Pereira to Santa Marta (via Bogata)

    After a couple of internal flights, we arrive at our next destination of Santa Marta, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Americas.

  10. Day 10: Walking in the Foothills of Sierra Nevada Mountains

    Today we take the opportunity to explore in and around the enchanting village of Minca, set in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada snow-capped peaks and tropical forest.

  11. Day 11: Walking in Tayrona National Park

    This trek traversing jungle paths and coastal landscapes provides opportunities to spot wildlife such as monkeys, macaws, toucans and iguanas. There may also be the chance to meet indigenous communities.

    Walking distance: 10 kilometres | Ascent: 100 metres | Descent: 100 metres

  12. Day 12: Half-day Nature Discovery & Tubing the Don Diego River; Afternoon at Leisure

    Today, we embark on a different kind of journey - enjoy a serene tubing experience along the Don Diego River, taking in the lush tropical jungle scenery as you float back towards the sea.

  13. Day 13: Transfer from Santa Marta to Cartagena; Half-day Walking Tour

    Following a transfer to Cartangena de Indias, we go on a half-day walking tour exploring the historic city centre, its vibrant and intricate architecture, and colonial past.

  14. Day 14: Day of Leisure or Optional Day Trip to Sabai Beach Hotel on Baru Island

    Today is your own - relax in the hotel, meander through the streets of Cartagena, or take an optional day trip to Baru Island.

  15. Day 15: Transfer to Cartegena Airport for a Return Flight to UK

  16. Day 16: Arrive UK

Please note: As this trip involves moderate walking across diverse landscapes and at some higher walking altitude, participants should be prepared for some steep climbs and descents along rugged trails. A good level of fitness is advised to fully appreciate the experience.
