Join us on an adventurous walking holiday in Virachey National Park and trek through semi-evergreen lowlands, bamboo thickets and cloud forest, before spending some time exploring the famous Angkor Temple Complex.
Following changes to the hunting laws, the Ministry of Environment set up trekking opportunities within Virachey National Park, in order to provide additional income to the local villagers and to help protect the forest. Accompanied by an indigenous park ranger, you have the chance to truly immerse yourself in the jungle lifestyle following an uncut path and sleeping under the forest canopy in simple, rustic hammocks.
In contrast to the first half of the trip, you will also have the chance to visit and explore the famous Angkor Temple Complex. You will embark on a full day tour, visiting some of the most famous and beautiful temples with a possible additional visit to Angkor Wat on your final day to experience the majestic sunrise.
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Phnom Penh.
You will be met on arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport and transfered to your accommodation. The remainder of the day is left free for you to enjoy at your leisure.
Today you travel to Sen Monorom, stopping for lunch at a coffee plantation. You will have the chance to explore and play games with the village children before dinner.
Today's trek takes you past spectacular views and mountain scenery, before heading towards the centre of the jungle. Your first stop is at a waterfall and cave where you'll have a little time to explore before continuing on to a second waterfall and your lunch stop for the day. You are able to take a refreshing swim while your food is prepared before making your way to Pou Tang Village. Meet the family of your local guide before heading back to Sen Monorom for the night.
You will be transferred to Kratie Town, home of the Irrawaddy dolphin. The remainder of your day is left free for you to enjoy at your leisure.
Board your traditional fisherman's boat and cruise to the famous dolphin pool of Kampi, where you can spend some time with the rare Irrawaddy 'Mekong' dolphins. On your return to the mainland you will be transferred to Ban Lung.
After breakfast, head to Kachon where you will board a narrow long boat and travel up the Sesan River. Reaching Leng Auw Village, meet the indigenous ranger who will be your guide for the next three days.
Your walk starts through various landscapes before heading into the jungle and across the O'Plong River. Tonight will be spent in a jungle camp where you sleep in hammocks around a camp fire. After nightfall, take a short night hike around the campsite in search of pygmy slow loris and civets.
Rising early to the sound of the jungle, enjoy breakfast cooked on an open fire before heading off the beaten track for today's walk. You can expect the path to be cut with a machete through the dense vegetation. The route today takes you back towards the Sesan River to Lag Oav Village where you will stay with a tribe host and their family.
The final part of your jungle trek takes you back into the forest and east towards Koh Pong Island, famous for its beautiful beaches. Depending on the water levels, there may be an opportunity to take a small boat over to the island for lunch, with time to relax, explore or take a refreshing swim. This afternoon you will be transferred back to Ban Lung.
Today you will travel to Siem Reap, visiting the remote Angkor capital of Koh Ker en route.
Today you will take a full day walking tour of the Angkor temple complex, visiting sites such as the temple of Bayon, the terrace of the Leper King, the Terrace of Elephants, Ta Prohm Temple and Banteay Kdei.
You will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight back to the UK.
Depending on your flight time, there may be an opportunity to experience sunrise at Angkor Wat, in which case you will take an overnight flight back to the UK, arriving the following day. (If you are unable to do the sunrise excursion, your guide will facilitate a visit to Angkor Wat during your full day tour.)
