Add this to the opportunity to trek through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of mountain gorillas and you are guaranteed an incredible once in a lifetime trip. As a lover of off-the-beaten-track experiences, we thought you might be interested in hearing about our latest special departure from our sister company, Chameleon Worldwide. Spend a night in colonial Entebbe on Lake Victoria, visit Murchison Falls National Park, spot wildlife on game drives to view the area's abundant wildlife and track Gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, all in addition to viewing the magnificent solar eclipse with teachers and children from a local school. To celebrate the release of this one off tailor-made departure to Uganda this November, we have pulled together a few of our favourite things about this unique African country. Famously believed to be the source of the White Nile, Lake Victoria is an unmissable beauty spot with its attractive colonial town and Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. This isn't the only lake that should be paid a visit when in this fascinating East African country. Lying close to the Rwandan border, Lake Bunyoni is argued to be Uganda's prettiest lake, with its picture perfect patchwork terraced hills and a name meaning 'place of many little birds'. Rumoured to be the second deepest lake in Africa, and dotted with no fewer than 29 islands, the area has gained itself the nickname of 'the Switzerland of Africa'. |
Between Lake Edward and Lake George lies the Kazinga Channel, an area of the Queen Elizabeth National Park which could be one of the best kept secrets when it comes to game viewing. Rich in wildlife including elephant, hippo, buffalo, baboon, leopard and the elusive climbing lion - this is well worth a stop. An early morning, or late afternoon boat trip here can provide the best hippo viewing in Africa. Throw in some huge crocodiles, a few herds of buffalo and more bird life than you could ever hope to glimpse on an African safari, and you have the makings of a fantastic photo album ... and some incredible memories to boot. |
No trip to Uganda would be complete without tracking one of the world's rarest creatures, the Mountain Gorilla, through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Although numbers have increased 10% in the last year, this is the only region in the world where you can glimpse these remarkable animals. An hour with the Mountain Gorillas will undoubtedly be one of the longest and most memorable hours you will ever experience. As well as gorillas, Uganda also has a healthy population of chimpanzees, and Kibale Forest provides one of the most exciting treks imaginable to see these mischievous primates. |
