Walks Worldwide, Useful Information

Prices

Prices quoted in our current brochure are correct at the time of printing. However, all prices are subject to change. Current and valid prices for all of our walking holidays can be found on our website www.walksworldwide.com

Trip Dossiers

Limited space allows us to give you outline information for each individual holiday in our brochure, or on the individual holiday webpage.

However, there is a detailed "Trip Dossier" available for every single one of our wonderful walking holidays. These comprehensive dossiers provide a great deal of invaluable information about the holiday. It is VERY IMPORTANT that before booking any of our walking holidays you should read the relevant trip dossier thoroughly. Trip Dossiers can easily be downloaded from this website. Simply go to the individual holiday trip page on our website and click the green trip dossier button. The dossier will download in PDF format. Alternatively, please contact the Walks Worldwide office on 0845 301 4737 and we can e-mail or post to you the trip dossier of your choice.

Booking

Our easy to use, and secure online booking system can be found on this website. Alternatively, a booking form can be found in our brochure, or you may telephone the office on 0845 301 4737 to make your booking. Once we have received your booking we will send you your official booking confirmation and Invoice. All correspondence will be by e-mail, unless otherwise requested by yourself. Important-You are advised not to make any travel arrangements (e.g. booking International flights, obtain visas, necessary vaccinations etc) until your chosen holiday has been "guaranteed to run" by Walks Worldwide. To check the availability and status of your chosen holiday please contact the Walks Worldwide office.

At the time of booking a non-refundable deposit will be required. The non-refundable deposit will be a minimum of £100 per person or 10% of the total holiday cost (whichever is the greater). The balance of your holiday will be due for payment in full no later than 8 weeks prior to your departure date. If booking a flight inclusive package, in some instances you may also be required to pay the cost of the non-refundable airfare in full at the time of booking. This is subject to the ticketing rules and regulations of the particular airline you will be flying with.

  • Some airlines may require payment much earlier than 8 weeks prior to your departure date in order to issue your airticket. In these instances you will be required to make payment for the airticket portion of your holiday package at the time of ticketing.

What We Include

As we offer such a wide variety of holiday choices, what we include and don't include also varies too. We firmly believe in a clear and concise fair pricing policy and you will find what we include in the cost of each holiday outlined in brief on the individual holiday page on our website. Further details of what is included and what isn't included can be found in the individual holiday trip dossier (see Trip Dossier section above)

Group Sizes (for our scheduled guided group trips)

We firmly believe in the concept of small group travel and as such for all of our scheduled, guided group trips there is both a minimum and maximum group size. These are stated on the individual holiday page in our current brochure and on the individual holiday trip page on our website. Usually our maximum group size is 16, although on many, many of our holidays it is considerably less (e.g. the maximum group size on our Nepal and India group trips is usually 12 or less). Please note you must be aged 18 years or over to partake in one of our scheduled group trips.

Tour Leaders

For all of our scheduled guided group holidays and exclusive guided holidays for a minimum of 2 people travelling together, a professional, guide is provided and acts as the overall tour leader. In most instances the guide will be based in the country of the individual holiday. We firmly believe that the best person equipped to guide any visitor to a foreign country is someone from that country itself. However, in some instances a mountain leader from the UK will usually accompany the group. Under certain circumstances we may also from time to time send a UK leader and/or a member of the Walks Worlwide office team to also accompany a group, as well as provide a guide locally.

Solo/Single travellers

There is NO COMPULSORY SINGLE SUPPLEMENT CHARGE for any solo/single person booking one of our group holidays. All prices stated are on a twin share accommodation basis. As such if you are a single/solo traveller you will be sharing accommodation with someone of the same gender. If the group gender split dictates that you receive single accommodation by default, you will not be charged a single supplement. However, you can request guaranteed single accommodation (where applicable/available) if you would prefer not to share and in this instance a single supplement charge would be applied.

On our personal self-guided and exclusive guided holidays based on a minimum of 2 people travelling together the prices include accommodation on a twin-share basis. Single supplement charges on these holidays will be applicable where single rooms are requested instead of a twin room, or where a single room is required by default. We also welcome solo/single travellers wishing to undertake any of these holidays where the price is based on a minimum of 2 people travelling together, but must stress that the price will be higher than published and will not be a case of adding the 2 person price, plus the single supplement charge. Solo/Single travellers wishing to undertake one of these types of holiday should contact the Walks Worldwide office for a personal quotation.

Accommodation

The accommodation we offer on our walking holidays are as varied as the holidays themselves! On one holiday alone you may find yourself staying in a hotel, a rustic and remote mountain refuge and a tent! Details of the accommodation used for each of our holidays can be found in the individual trip dossier.

We also offer several "In Style" walking holidays which use a higher standard of accommodation ranging from 5* Paradors, boutique hotels, luxury mountain lodges and upmarket permanent tented camps.

Land Only

For all our holidays we offer a "Land Only" price. This price does not include International flights and is based on joining at the stated starting point for the individual holiday in the destination country. With the increasing use of online booking technology and the proliferation of "no frills" budget airlines many people now prefer to book their own flights for our holidays. IMPORTANT- Please do not book your international flights until your chosen holiday has been guaranteed to run. If you are purchasing your own air ticket, you should be aware that most of the cheaper airline tickets available for sale on the internet or from low cost carriers are non-refundable in the case of cancellation and will not be protected by our ATOL bonding. For this reason we strongly advise you check the rules of the ticket when you make a flight booking, and check the limitations of any cancellation insurance policy you have. We cannot be held liable for losses incurred relating to any flight bookings or subsequent travel arrangements you have made yourself.

Flight inclusive package option

Walks Worldwide will be delighted to make your International Flight arrangements for your chosen holiday. We have full ATOL bonding and can book flights with most Airlines. Most International flight prices are variable and usually can only be guaranteed at the time of booking. For most of our non-European holidays we offer a flight inclusive package option. The price quoted is a "from" price. This is usually a price based on fare information available at the time of printing our most current brochure and will be the lowest fare found at that time. Usually there is a choice of airlines and departure airports for our holidays. Clearly International flight prices are subject to and invariably do change. International flight prices are not fixed in advance and are out with our control. Factors such as your preferred departure airport, seat availability, preferred airline, date of booking etc will ultimately affect the price of a flight inclusive package option. Please contact the Walks Worldwide office for an up to date Flight Inclusive Package quote plus flight advice and options for your chosen holiday. Airport taxes will be included in your flight inclusive package quotation.

As a general rule the earlier you book a flight inclusive package option the cheaper your airticket will be.

Early Booking

There are many reasons as to why it is beneficial to book early. For one (as above) it usually means the lowest airfares can be found. Booking early also means you can be more certain of a place on your chosen holiday, especially if it is one of scheduled group departures. Where a particular trip requires a minimum number of participants to reach guaranteed operational status, it is clearly in the best interests of all those wishing to take part to book as early as possible. On our self-guided and exclusive, guided walking holidays for a minimum of 2 people travelling together, which offer flexible daily (seasonal departures) it is clearly not possible for us to reserve accommodation, guides etc in advance, thus availability is invariably upon request. Consequently the earlier you book/enquire about availability for these types of holiday the better the chance of ensuring you can depart on your preferred date.

Of course we understand that it isn't always possible to book well in advance and so neither do we impose a late booking charge, however higher airfares are usually likely the later you book.

Kitbags and baggage

From July 1st 2009 we are no longer sending complimentary kitbags to clients booking our walking holidays. This is in direct response to feedback from our clients, many of whom travel with us regularly and no longer need yet another kitbag! Many of our clients undertaking our self-guided walking holidays where baggage transfers are made by vehicle also told us that they prefer to use their own suitcases instead.

Please ensure you use the correct type of baggage for your chosen holiday.

For all of our holidays where your main baggage is transported by pack animal or porter (either part of or entirely) please ensure you use one piece of main baggage only which can be a soft kitbag, or similar (e.g rucksack with no frame) to a maximum size of 85litre. Suitcases cannot be used on these holidays. Please contact the Walks Worldwide office if you are uncertain about the suitability of your main baggage.

For our holidays where your main baggage is transported entirely by vehicle you are welcome to use a suitcase.

Visas and Vaccinations

We always recommend visiting your doctor and dentist for a check up before travelling. Your doctor will also have access to the most up to date information on vaccinations and medical precautions for the country you are about to visit.

Please refer to the individual trip dossier for advice regarding visa requirements for your chosen holiday. In most instances where a visa is required we are unable to make a visa application on your behalf.

Know Before You Go

Walks Worldwide are fully committed to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office's "Know before you go" campaign. We thoroughly recommend that all Walks Worldwide clients visit the FCO website -www.fco.gov.uk. If you have any questions or concerns about government travel advice to your chosen country please contact the Walks Worldwide office.

IMPORTANT WARNING

Our holidays are invariably adventurous, and many are to remote areas and to countries less developed than the United Kingdom. Despite painstaking planning and organisation, many of our holidays should not be taken for granted like regular mass tourism type holidays. Many things in less-developed countries can be less predictable than in the United Kingdom, and may not have the same standards or quality of emergency health and safety services. Transport can and often is unreliable and uncomfortable, and accommodation will not approach the standards of the United Kingdom, both in remote areas and major conurbations too.

IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED FOR THIS YOU SHOULD NOT TRAVEL WITH US.

The unpredictable nature of travelling to less developed countries means that our published holiday itineraries are statements of intent and NOT contractual obligations. Many factors (e.g. weather, transport problems, political instability etc) can dictate the necessity to make an enforced change to an itinerary at very short notice. Naturally, we (and our local agents) will always do everything we can to minimise any changes and/or disruption. However, we cannot be held responsible for the results of enforced changes or delays, irrespective of their cause. As our holidays are adventurous, "expect the unexpected" and to travel with a sense of adventure, humour and the philosophy to accept that other countries in the world are not the same as the United Kingdom pays dividends. Although the vast majority of our holidays run smoothly, if you are not able to appreciate that travelling to less-developed countries and remote areas (even within parts of Europe) may not always be as the same as what we are used to in the United Kingdom, please do not book your holiday with us.
