Guided Tours
a) Guided Groups - Fixed departures On these group tours an experienced team of local staff, and on some trips a UK tour leader, will look after your needs from the moment you land to the moment you depart. All you will have to do is walk, wash, eat and sleep! Pack animals, porters or vehicles will carry all your main baggage, and we provide all communal equipment needed to ensure as high level of comfort as possible. Occasionally some light backpacking may be required (GR20, Switzerland). Please note that not all group trips are exclusive to Walks Worldwide.
Group size: Maximum 16.
b) Independent A few of our open dated tours (especially our 'In Style' selection) use local guides but are designed for 2 people or more travelling together, ideal for those of you who want independence away from a group, but do not want to risk getting lost!
Group size: Minimum 2. -
Self-Guided Tours
These tours are for those of you who do not wish to be tied to a group, but would prefer to walk at your own pace from one inn (guesthouse or pension) to another following the detailed walking notes and maps which we supply. All your accommodation will be pre-booked and your luggage will be transferred for you by vehicle. Some tours include a hire car in the tour cost and some may be centre or twin centre-based. We must emphasis that these are NOT group departures although you may find yourselves setting off on the same date as other Walks Worldwide clients.
Group size: Minimum 2. -
Tailor-made trips, Extensions and Special Groups.
Virtually any tour we offer can be amended to suit the needs of groups - large or small - who would prefer to develop their own individual itinerary. Please contact us to discuss your ideas and we will prepare a personalised itinerary and quote for you on dates that you choose. Extensions can be made to nearly all of our trips and are usually mentioned on the relevant trips.
GRADING THE TOURS
These grades should be taken as a guideline only, and as with any grading system are subjective. Our grades take into account a combination of the distance walked, the thoughness of the terrain, the altitude, the remoteness, climate, the overall length of the whole tour and the degree of comfort to be expected. Please do consult us if you have specific concernts about any aspet of our tours.
-
A is easy - for anyone of any age. Plenty of rest stops and time to enjoy the local scenery. The trip will not solely consist of walking each day, allowing time for sightseeing and touring the area using other forms of transportation.
-
B is moderate - for anyone who is a 'regular' hill walker. As above but offering longer stretches of walking on more rugged terrain.
-
C is fairly strenuous - for the keen hill walker. Trekking is sustained, often involving high mountain passes, but still with plenty of time for rest and relaxation at the end.
- D is strenuous and at times challenging - A pre-trip 'fitness regime' will certainly aid the enjoyment factor. Certain trips do involve an element of 'mountaineering' or gentle scrambling - training will be given but previous competence is recommended. It is important that you do not 'bite off more than you can comfortably chew'!
Please be aware that on some tours the categories do overlap.
