The Grindelwald Wander
Walking holidays, walks switzerland in the Bernese Oberland
Interlaken, situated in the Bernese Oberland at the foot of the mighty trio of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau, lies amidst one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Of course, you may walk in these mountains with the help of railways or cable cars and the train up through the heart of the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch (3454 metres) is simply a must for any visitor, but it is certainly more enjoyable to succumb to the spell of these giants by exploring this wonderful region by foot. On this leisurely programme you have ample time to marvel at their grandeur, as well as observe the less obvious but equally beautiful details that these deep valleys have to offer. Daily luggage transfers except Day 2.- Day 1. Outbound to Interlaken
- Fly into Zurich and travel by train to Interlaken, a lively and beautiful lakeshore community.
- Days 2 and 3. Faulhorn to Grindelwald
- Start your day with a spectacular train ride via Wilderswil to the top of the Schynige Platte. Here you are so close to the gigantic trio of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau that you can almost touch their icy surfaces! Enjoy unobstructed views along the high route to your mountain guesthouse on the peak of the Faulhorn. Descend via foot or cable car to the famed alpine village of Grindelwald.
- Days 4 and 5. Kleine Scheidegg
- Of course there is the possibility to travel to the Kleine Scheidegg by train but it is infinitely more rewarding to tackle this ascent on foot, as there are numerous opportunities to stop and marvel at the tremendous black North face of the Eiger, towering above your heads. Enjoy a rest day at Kleine Scheidegg or take the spectacular walk along the foot of the Eiger up to the Eigergletscher station and continue by train to the famed Jungfraujoch.
- Days 6 to 8. Murren
- Walk downwards to the village of Wengen and further on to Lauterbrunnen at the bottom of the valley. Take a detour to view one of the highest waterfalls of the region, before starting the short ascent to the cosy traffic-free village of Murren. The following day climb the Schilthorn, a mountain which has become famous all over the world, albeit under the name of "Piz Gloria", when sequences of the James Bond film "O.H.M.S.S." were shot here. Head back to Zurich and fly home.
