The Swiss Alpine Crossing

8 days, Self-Guided, Minimum 2 People, Seasonal Daily Departures

  • Awesome summer Alpine walking
  • Lofty mountain and glacial views
  • Overnight in pretty Swiss villages

Our hardest walk in Switzerland will challenge you with its ascents and descents as you traverse the zig-zag paths on the side of the Valais valley. However, the views of the glaciers, lofty snowy peaks, verdant valleys, pretty meadows and small lakes will soon alleviate the spirits allowing you to have the most stunning weeks holiday. The trip roughly follows the route of the "Glacier Express", the little red train which impressively snakes it's way slowly down the valley.

An overnight at the village of Oberwald allows you to see the young river Rhone as it trundles on its way to the Mediterranean. Many of the villages you pass through in the latter part of the week sit on sunny plateaux with dizzy views of the valley below and the higher white mountains above.

As you walk the wild flowers are abundant and mountain life is lazily cruising around you, and you hear the sound of cowbells, the cry of the birds of prey and the breeze through the grasses. Altogether this trip is a classic mountain trek, in Europe, with the luxury of small cosy hotels.
