The Rockies in Style
Bi-weekly, July and August.
For the ultimate in hiking experiences why not try some heli-hiking? Fly deep into the heart of British Colombia to the Durrand Glacier. Here you will find a remote world of blooming alpine meadows, deepforested valleys, huge waterfalls, jade-coloured lakes and high glaciers framing the entire area. Surrounded by towering peaks lies your first class Swiss style chalet, located at the tree-line at just under 2000 metres with a majestic 360 degree view of the most spectacular high-alpine scenery.
This will be your base for one of the largest alpine trail networks anywhere with over 75 kilometres of maintained trails. Each trail leads to its own destination with scenery, beauty and character unique to that hike. While one trail gives you the best opportunity to meet mountain goats on alpine plateaux, the next trail leads you to the very edge of one of the interior's largest glaciers.
One thing all hikes definitely have in common is the wild flowers with over 100 different varieties. Wildlife is part of the experience with marmots, Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons and, of course, the Grizzly Bear. Take short self-guided hikes or extended guided hikes into the Southern Selkirk Mountains whose peaks offer views into the Canadian Glacier National Park. From Carnes Creek to Tumbledown Mountain the chalet offers spectacular front row views from where you can witness the sun descending behind the Monashee Mountain Range. Relax, enjoy the homecooked meals and soak up this alpine paradise far away from the crowds.
