Quebec Winter Wonderland
9 days, Guided Group, Fixed Departures
Winter at its best! Experience a variety of multi-activities whilst exploring the beautiful Charlevoix region, covered under a blanket of glittering (and virtually guaranteed!) snow. Quebec is an exceptional land in North America, distinctive in its varied geography, history and culture, forging a very unique identity. This multi-activity program has been put together so that outdoor enthusiasts will be able to live as Quebecois do during their long winters.
A unique opportunity to experience this great winterland and its heartwarming people. Enjoy the stunning scenery by means of snowmobile, dogsled, snowshoes and skiis. You will never forget waking up to mornings of crisp air, silent snowy mountains and the scent of maple syrup waffles wafting through your log cabin, deep in the heart of remote forest. It may be cold but the activities will keep you warm and anyway, as the locals say, 'It's a dry cold'!
- Day 1. Outbound to Montreal
- Fly to Montreal with the chance to explore the city's bustling streets before a trip briefing.
- Days 2 and 3. Huskies and Snowmobiles!
- Two very different methods of transportation in the winter. Travel north to Jacques Cartier Park near the Saint Lawrence river where you will meet your musher-guides and dogs ready for a 20 kilometre exploration of the forest. You will overnight in a cosy wooden cabin equipped with wood stove. The following morning continue on your husky ride through the wilderness. After lunch swap 'dog power' for 'horse power' on a 100 kilometre snowmobile expedition through the great Quebec outdoors.
- Days 4 and 5. Snowshoeing in Charlevoix
- Proceed to the Charlevoix region in the heart of the Canadian shield. Charlevoix is 6000 square kilometres of mountains and valleys and for two days you will explore this landscape on snowshoes, just as Canadians' ancestors used to. You will cover around 8 kilometres per day. Nights will be spent in genuine log cabins. Luggage and gear will be transported by snowmobile.
- Day 6. Skiing
- Transfer to the "Massif de la Petite-Riviere-Saint-Francois". This area is the highest downhill skiing mountain in Quebec. It is also the calmest and most appreciated ski centre by quebecois skiers. From the summit you will have the impression of falling in the frozen Saint Laurence river. Cross country skiing is also available. Tonight you will sleep in a wonderful ski chalet equipped with fireplace and absolute winter silence!
- Day 7. Quebec City
- Cultural time now with a full day spent in this UNESCO heritage site, atop Cap Diamant overlooking the Saint Lawrence river. Enjoy warming 'chocolat chaud', fondues and crepes in this atmospheric city.
- Days 8 and 9. Homeward
- Return to Montreal with some time to explore more of the city. Fly overnight back to the UK.
