This trip will take you on an incredible journey walking in the most stunning parts of Albania and Montenegro. You’ll discover Shkodra, the oldest and largest city in Northern Albania, the remote region of Kelmendi and the eastern Alps while trekking amongst glacial valleys, waterfalls and pristine alpine pastures.

This trip is packed with monumental moments. You will hike the pass from Montenegro to Albania, climb to the peak of ‘Tre Kujfit’ which crowns the joining borders of these three countries, and climb to the summit of Albania’s highest peak, Mount Korab.

There is also the chance to climb Pyramid 18 on the border of Montenegro, and you can also meet the locals in the villages of Thethi and enjoy a home-cooked meal with a local family.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Tirana & transfer to Shkodër

    On arrival in Tirana, transfer to hotel in Shkodër. Explore the town and enjoy dinner in a traditional restaurant.

  2. Day 2: Drive to Kelmendi, hike to Sllapi waterfall

    Drive to Kelmendi, following the shoreline of the beautiful Shkodër Lake. Walk from the village of Selca to the spectacular waterfall of Sllapi, enjoying panoramic views of the narrow valley below. Descend via another trail to the valley below and transfer to Lëpushë.

    Walking distance: 8 km | Ascent: 480 m | Descent: 440 m

  3. Day 3: Bordolec pass to Koprisht, then Berizhodol Ridge

    Walk through beech woods and fresh springs to reach the vast open pastures of Koprisht and continue further to engage in one of the most panoramic ridge walks of Kelmendi region: Berizhdol Ridge. Descend to the bottom of the valley and spend time relaxing and exploring the village.

  4. Day 4: Pass of Perdolec to Peak of Greben; descend to Vermosh

    Walk through meadows and woods to the Peak of Greben, where you'll enjoy great views of Mount Trojan, Lepushe Alpine cirque and the jagged silhouette of the Accursed Mountains. Continue to the Pass of Zabeli, where you'll start the descent towards Vermosh, the most northern village of Albania.

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 775 m | Descent: 785 m

  5. Day 5: Hike to Thethi Valley

    Transfer to Vuthaj and trek to the valley of Thethi – the heart of the Albania Alps. Following the Ropojana valley to the elevated rocky plateau of Runica, stopping at Peja Pass for lunch and continuing to Thethi.

    Walking distance: 21 km | Ascent: 680 m | Descent: 950 m

  6. Day 6: Explore the villages of Thethi; visit a local family

    Discover Thethi, visiting the Blood Feud Tower and walking to the Thethi waterfall and the Blue Eye of Kapreja. Walk back to Nderlysa and transfer back to Thethi. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner by a local family.

    Walking distance: 8 km | Ascent: 125 m  | Descent: 500 m

  7. Day 7: Valbona Pass, descend into the Valbona Valley

    A dramatic trail up to the Valbona Pass. Admire the beautiful views and walks through beech forest, lush meadows to firmer mountain sections.

    Walking distance: 14 km | Ascent: 1,000 m | Descent: 750 m

  8. Day 8: Head to Montenegro border; optional climb to ’Pyramid 18’

    Ascend steadily to the remote, traditional hamlet of Kukaj. Follow a shepherd’s trail high up and into the very remote and beautiful landscapes of Albania’s eastern Alps. If you want to, you can continue to ’Pyramid 18’ (2,000 metres), which marks the border with Montenegro. Then descend back to Rrogam.

  9. Day 9: Descend through the valley; transfer to Ceremi & walk to Dobërdoll

    You will leave on foot towards the bottom valley of Valbona and start a short scenic transfer through a green gorge to the beginning of the trail in the beautiful hamlet of Ceremi, an off-the-beaten-track destination of rare beauty.

    Enjoy walking through green meadows, ice-cold freshwater springs and pristine alpine natural landscapes and old military border posts as you trek to Dobërdoll, Montenegro.

    Walking distance: 16 km | Ascent: 570 m | Descent: 450 m

  10. Day 10: Climb to ’Tre Kujfit’ (three borders) Peak

    Ascend to the ridge that marks the border between Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. At the ridge admire the stunning views of the Gjeravica (the highest peak of Kosovo), Kollata (the highest peak of Montenegro) and the Jezerca massif. An additional climb will lead to the peak of three borders, before you begin your gradual descent through beautiful alpine meadows and glacial lakes and dense fir forest.

    Transfer to the town of Prizren, after stopping in the lower valley to visit the St. Nicolas Monastery of Decan one of Kosovo’s most famous monuments. Transfer to Prizren.

    Walking distance: 16 km | Ascent: 180 m | Descent: 920 m

  11. Day 11: Drive through Radomira region back to Albania

    Transfer back into Albania. At the town of Kukes you will continue east on the road that goes below the steep slopes of Mount Gjallica. In the afternoon you will reach Radomira region and the small village of Tejza at the foothills of Korab.

  12. Day 12: Summit Mount Korab

    Depart on foot to begin your ascent of Mount Korab (2,756 metres), have a picnic lunch with amazing views and descend back to your guesthouse in Tejza.

    Walking distance: 18 km | Ascent: 1,550 m | Descent: 1,550 m

  13. Day 13: Return to Tirana

    Leaving the mountains behind, transfer by road to Tirana, stopping at Lake Shkopet en route for lunch. Free evening in Tirana to enjoy the nightlife in this trendy city.

  14. Day 14: Fly back to the UK

    Deaprt Tirana on your flight back to the UK.
