Land of the Llama
11 days - Guided group departures and exclusive daily seasonal departures, minimum 2 people
- Trek the Sacred Valley
- Explore Machu Picchu
- Visit Quechua communities
This trip supports the "One Percent for the Planet" foundation. This has meant that in conjunction with the NGO body ECOANPERU already over 65,000 native trees have been replanted in the region since 2007.
From the city of Cusco, ancient Inca capital, this trek takes you though the Sacred Valley into the spectacular and rarely visited Lares Valley, where life continues as it has for centuries, rich in cultural history. Here, amongst the hardy Quechua people tending their crops, the trails will take you over high mountain passes, past upland lakes, rushing waterfalls and through remote Andean villages. And everywhere you look llama are grazing, suitably at home on the high mountain terrain. The odd mule train may pass you by, condors may soar above but mostly you will be alone amidst the glorious wilderness.
Combined with a visit to the hot-springs at Lares, the exploration of local Inca ruins and the climax of a day at Machu Picchu, this trip brings a balance of rich ancient history and stunning trails less travelled.
