Following ancient Berber trails that link the mud and stone villages of the High Atlas, this amazing walking holiday has been specifically designed and researched ‘in the field’ to provide you with the opportunity to genuinely experience real Berber life close up.

Trekking across a series of mountain passes (Tizis), you explore four entirely different valleys to discover a fascinating variety of changing, colourful landscapes. Enjoy a sublime Atlas trek and stimulating cultural experience with comfortable, charming accommodation, friendly Berber hospitality, tasty fresh Moroccan food and breathtaking scenery and night skies along the way.

Returning from the mountains to colourful Marrakech you have time to explore the curious labyrinths of the souks. This trip includes a night in a charming, traditional family-run riad in the heart of Marrakech.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Marrakech

    Fly to Marrakech, where you’ll be met and transferred to your riad for an overnight stay.

  2. Day 2: Transfer to Oukaimeden; trek via Tizi n’ou Addi to Tacheddirt

    After a morning transfer to Oukaimeden, you will meet the Berber team and start your trek to Tacheddirt.

    Ascend along a piste track towards Angour before walking parallel to this most impressive mountain, to rise at a steady gradient towards the first and highest pass you'll cross on this holiday - the Tizi nou Addi. Enjoy views of the Atlas Mountains and across the valley below, before continuing up on a Berber trail to Tacheddirt, the highest permanently occupied Berber village in the whole of North Africa.

  3. Day 3: Cross Tizi Tamatert to Aremd

    Descend down valley on a piste track, passing tiny villages along the way to Tinerhourhine. You'll then ascend up a zig-zagging mule trail to reach the Tizi n'Tamatert where there are stunning views. Descend and take a detour through the village of Targa Imoula to follow a villagers' trail up to Aremd, where mighty Toubkal dominates the skyline.

    Walking distance: 12 km | Ascent: 560 m | Descent: 970 m

  4. Day 4: Ait Mizane to Sidi Chamharouch

    Trek up the alpine valley of Ait Mizane to Sidi Chamharouch shrine.

    Walking distance: 7 km | Ascent: 450 m | Descent: 450 m

  5. Day 5: Trek to the Upper Azzadan Valley

    Today you will make a steady climb up to the Tizi Mzik pass (2489m) which offers spectacular views before walking along the protected forest of the Toubkal National Park. Later you will descend to the Berber Village of Tizi Oussem.

    Walking distance: 8 km | Ascent: 550 m | Descent: 650 m

  6. Day 6: Trek down to Tassa Ouirgane

    Today you will descend through the Azzadan Valley as you make your way out of the High Atlas Mountains. This scenic walk takes you through multiple landscapes and past a multitude of different flora and fauna.

    Walking distance: 18 km | Descent: 850 m

  7. Day 7: Transfer to Marrakech; explore the city

    Transfer to Marrakech where the rest of the day is free to explore and perhaps hunt for souvenirs in the souks and bazaars.

  8. Day 8: Fly back to the UK

    Depart Marrakech and fly back to the UK.
