Visit the fabled site of Machu Picchu and follow ancient Inca trails. At Walks Worldwide we have chosen a lesser walked option - the Ancascocha Trek - which includes time to explore Lima and to discover the fascinating city of Cusco and it’s surrounding countryside, giving you ample time to acclimatise. It also means less trekking each day and more time to visit fascinating Inca ruins.

Discover More About Peru

Stroll around the historic Inca capital, Cusco, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Situated at about 4,000 metres above sea level in the Andes, its museums, colonial architecture and growing reputation for an exciting cuisine make it one of South America’s most attractive cities to visit.

Situated 20 kilometres north of the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, the Sacred Valley was inhabited by the Incas between 1,000 and 1,400 AD and used extensively for the production of maize. Lying at a lower elevation than Cusco, the Sacred Valley is an important destination for those en route to Machu Picchu, and a place where visitors can acclimatise before beginning their Inca Trail trek.

Largely forgotten about until the 20th century, Machu Picchu is today one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites and, for many visitors, the highlight of a visit to Peru … or indeed South America itself. Enjoying a truly spectacular location, and despite its great popularity, Machu Picchu remains a truly breathtaking site and a must for any visitor to the country.
