Mediterranean Crossroads - North Cyprus
The "Island of Aphrodite" floating on the blue, warm waters of the Mediterranean crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa is no stranger to visitors. With over 10,000 years of culture many have passed through including Phoenicians, Ottomans, Romans, Crusaders, Venetians, Egyptians and the British too. The apostles of Christ walked this land, yet nowadays few bother to venture far from their overcrowded beach to discover the traditional heart and soul of the "Sweet Land of Cyprus". As a result, the discerning walker can explore the trails and fragrant cedar and pine-wooded forests of the delightful Troodos Mountains by and large in peace and with an air of welcoming tranquillity. Offering cooler sanctuary away from the heat of the coast the Troodos rise to almost 2000m at their highest point of Mount Olympus. Here you can discover divine Byzantine monasteries and world heritage ornately painted churches perched on peaks and nestling in valleys, as well as picturesque mountain villages clinging to terraced hill sides. Cypriot hospitality is legendary and amongst the splendour of the Troodos you'll be able to appreciate this even more whilst enjoying wonderful fresh and delicious Cypriot cuisine whilst staying in atmospheric accommodation along the way. You'll also explore the wilder side of Cyprus too, the stunningly beautiful Akamas Peninsula. Cyprus is renowned both for it's bird life and it's wild flowers, as well as its wonderful Mediterranean climate and nowhere else is this more so than the Akamas.
