Walking holidays and trekking holidays in China
China is a vast land of contrasts; where ancient history survives alongside modern cities and spectacular landscapes of alpine peaks, gorges and blue-green lakes. Explore the Mt Gongga region, rich in biodiversity and scattered with Tibetan and Buddhist cultural sites. Trek along high passes in remote wilderness and visit the Giant Panda breeding centre in Chengdu.
Trekking here is moderate, along rugged paths with steep ascents and is very remote. Weather is variable and the altitude is high (up to 4600m) so our trip is best suited to experienced walkers looking for a challenging trek. Accommodation includes simple hotels and guesthouses, a mysterious monastery and one night of camping.
The best time of year to visit the Gongga Mountain range is in summer, between May and October. However, weather is variable here and cooler in the mountains than in Chengdu and night time temperatures may reach below freezing at the highest points of the trek.
